United Kingdom

Planning a trip to United Kingdom? On this page you will find information about motorway vignettes, toll payment methods and rules for driving on paid roads.

Driving on the road

The UK does not require a vignette.

Dart Charge (Dartford Crossing) is £3.50 per car (class B); EVs pay. Free 22:00–06:00. Pay by midnight the next day. M6 Toll Class 2 is about £6.90–£12 by zone. Severn crossings are free since 2018.

London Congestion Charge is £18 (or £21 if paid late). EVs pay £13.50 on Auto Pay — they are not free. Without Auto Pay an EV pays the full £18. ULEZ is £0 for compliant BEVs (separate scheme; non-UK vehicles must still register with TfL).

Clean Air Zones and ULEZ in several cities are separate from the congestion charge. Compliant BEVs sit in the cleanest ULEZ band (£0), but the congestion charge is a different fee.

Proof of insurance / Green Card is required for visiting foreign plates.

Drive on the left. Ordinary A- and M-roads outside the tolls above are free.
