Driving on the road

Electronic motorway vignette (Elektronická dálniční známka). Stickers are gone. Most motorways and expressways are paid; segments marked BEZ POPLATKU or a crossed vignette icon are free.

Cars ≤3.5 t need it. Motorcycles are exempt. Vehicles over 3.5 t use a separate truck toll, not this vignette.

EV / hydrogen: 0 CZK. Automatic for Czech plates. Foreign plates must file an exemption notice on edalnice.gov.cz / edalnice.cz before using paid motorways — it is not automatic. Skipping it can still be fined (up to 5,000 CZK).

Official prices from 1 Jan 2026 (CZK): standard fuel 1 day 230 / 10 days 300 / 30 days 480 / annual 2,570. PHEV ≤50 g CO2/km: 50 / 70 / 120 / 640. CNG/LNG/biomethane: 110 / 150 / 240 / 1,280.

Official shop: edalnice.gov.cz and edalnice.cz. Also petrol stations, post offices and border kiosks.

Fine without a vignette on a paid motorway: up to 20,000 CZK. A fraudulent exemption claim: up to 100,000 CZK.

Dipped beam 24/7 (DRL is fine in daylight). Studs are banned nationwide. Winter tyres 1 Nov–31 Mar and whenever there is snow or ice.

Speed limits for cars: motorway 130 (minimum 80 if conditions allow) / express 110 / rural 90 / urban 50.

Green Card required. UA plates pay like any other foreign plate — no exemption.

Keep the e-receipt. A wrong plate means the vignette is invalid.
