Portugal
Planning a trip to Portugal? On this page you will find information about motorway vignettes, toll payment methods and rules for driving on paid roads.
Driving on the road
Portugal does not require a vignette. Two systems remain: traditional plazas (ticket in / pay out or Via Verde) and electronic gantries with no booth.
Visitors pay via pttolls.com (EasyToll, Tollcard, Go Toll, Via Verde or an interoperable OBU). Post-pay at CTT / Multibanco within 15 working days if you used a gantry without a product.
A22, A23, A24, A25, parts of A28 and the A4 Transmontana are legally €0 (former SCUT, not a discount). Remaining electronic stretches (parts of Costa de Prata / Grande Porto / Norte Litoral, A21, etc.) are still charged.
There is no 2026 national EV motorway discount. The old 50% applied to ex-SCUT roads that are now free for everyone. Do not budget a 50% cut on remaining plazas.
Some older A-roads have been de-tolled; check your route before you assume a plaza.
Keep the plate readable — free-flow cameras bill the registered owner.
