No national vignette. Ordinary roads are free. Most A-class motorways are pay-per-use péage by distance, run by several regional operators.

Ticket in, pay out (cash, card or transponder). Class depends on height, GVW and axles — a car ≤2 m and ≤3.5 t is Classe 1.

Sample car fares (indicative, as of August 2026 — confirm on the operator site): Paris–Lyon ≈€42; Paris–Marseille ≈€70; Paris–Bordeaux €60.90; Lyon–Nice ≈€49.30; Lyon–Marseille ≈€28.

Free-flow (no barriers) on A79 and parts of A13–A14 Paris–Normandy: cameras read the plate. Pay on the operator site, with a transponder or at partner points within 72 hours.

Miss that window and a notice follows: +€10 if you pay within 15 days, +€90 in the next two months, then €375.

Extra, not included in the motorway ticket: Millau Viaduct €11.30–15 (seasonal); Mont Blanc and Fréjus tunnels €55.50 one way / €69.20 return within 7 days.

ZFE low-emission zones operate in Paris, Lyon and Marseille. Electric vehicles are exempt from ZFE restrictions.

Speed limits for cars: motorway 130 (110 in rain) / express 110 / rural 80 / urban 50.

Green Card is required for foreign and UA-registered cars (fine if missing up to about €750). Alcohol 0.5‰. Dipped beam always on.

There is no French car vignette to buy online. Plan cash/card for plazas and a 72-hour reminder for free-flow stretches.
