Planning a trip to Poland? On this page you will find information about motorway vignettes, toll payment methods and rules for driving on paid roads.
Driving on the road
No car vignette. Cars ≤3.5 t pay only on concession stretches of A1, A2 and the Katowice–Kraków section of A4. The rest of the network is free for cars.
A4 from the German border through Wrocław and on to Korczowa / the UA border is free for cars ≤3.5 t. Only Katowice ↔ Kraków is paid: from 1 Apr 2026 18 PLN per plaza (36 PLN for the full section; motorcycles 9 PLN/plaza). Was 17 PLN before that date.
A1 is paid again for cars from 1 January 2025 (the 2023 relief was cancelled). About 0.16 PLN/km; a typical paid stretch ~152 km ≈ 29.90 PLN. Calculator: a1.com.pl.
A2 Nowy Tomyśl–Konin from 11 Mar 2026: 40 PLN per ~50 km for a 2-axle car ≤3.5 t; the full three segments 120 PLN. Another rise is scheduled for 11 Sep 2026. Confirm on autostrada-a2.pl.
Ticket in / pay out at barriers. Cash PLN, EUR or USD, or a card. Lost ticket = maximum fare. Optional apps such as Autopay can charge the plate automatically — they are not mandatory.
e-TOLL is for HGVs and buses on the GDDKiA network, not for ordinary cars at these plazas.
No wartime privileges for UA plates (the 2022 “free for Ukrainians” notice is obsolete). Same tariffs as everyone else.
Speed limits for cars ≤3.5 t: motorway 140 (minimum 40) / express 120 or 100 / rural 90 / urban 50. Average-speed cameras (OPP) operate on A1, A2 and A4.
Dipped beam 24/7. Studs banned. Green Card required for UA-registered cars for the whole stay.
From the UA border you can stay on A4 for free until the Katowice–Kraków concession.
