The Portal TheKoreanCarBlog has obtained documents detailing the future of Kia’s factories in South Korea. Production of a model labeled “Kia EV7” is set to begin at one of the facilities. The number seven is one of the few digits not yet used, and in the case of the Kia EV7, it is likely referring to a D-segment crossover with a length of around 4.6–4.8 meters, making it slightly larger than the Kia EV6 and smaller than the Kia EV9.
The Kia EV7 is currently just speculation. But …
The plans for producing the Kia EV7 involve facilities in Gangju (source). The odd number in the designation suggests an SUV body type, which is confirmed by listings—and essentially... that’s all the unofficial information available. But the car has the potential to be interesting: the Kia EV5 closes the gap with models built on the E-GMP 400 V platform, meaning lower voltage systems and a 80% charge in about 30 minutes. The Kia EV6 opens up the category for models on the E-GMP platform, featuring voltages of around 600 V or higher (800 V architecture) with a 80% charge in 18–21 minutes. Thus, the Kia EV7 might be similar in size to the Kia EV5 but will be a “more premium” product.

The large Kia EV9 has a length of just over 5 meters (5.015 m) with a wheelbase of 3.1 meters. If the company wants to secure a spot for the Kia EV8, which would enter the E-segment (around 4.9 m long), then the Kia EV7 should be approximately 4.6–4.8 meters long, meaning it will be compared to the Tesla Model Y from the start of its market presence (Model Y Juniper = 4.79–4.8 m long). This puts certain pressure on the manufacturer: ultra-fast charging is already available on the E-GMP platform, but the company still needs to work on reducing energy consumption. Or it must install a larger battery in the vehicle.

Order seems to be returning to Hyundai’s positioning strategy: Hyundai is intended to be positioned above Kia, while Hyundai Motor Group’s luxury brand, Genesis, is expanding its presence in Europe. The Kia EV7 will thus compete with the Skoda Peaq, and it may also aim to counter Volkswagen’s yet-unannounced model that will succeed the current VW ID.6 (Volkswagen ID. Tayron?). To fit properly within the portfolio, the EV7 should have the largest battery capacity of 80-90 kWh (for comparison: VW ID. Tiguan 90 kWh, Skoda Peaq 90 kWh) and achieve slightly over 600 WLTP miles per charge.
The model’s launch is expected in 2028.
