Yangwang Altior makes its debut in Abu Dhabi. A series of 399 units for around 2.08 million yuan.

Yangwang, BYD’s luxury brand, unveiled the Altior on Saturday in Abu Dhabi — its flagship limousine featuring rear doors that open upward, similar to Rolls-Royce models. The first to go on pre-sale is the four-seater limited edition Shanhe Dingyun: 399 units worldwide, with a deposit of 300,000 yuan and an estimated price of 2.08 million yuan (about $310,000). The manufacturer has not yet disclosed details on the powertrain, battery, range, or charging speed.

Dimensions: 5.6 m long and 3.5 m wheelbase

According to data published by CnEVPost, the Altior is 5,600 mm long and has a 3,500 mm wheelbase. CarNewsChina reported figures around 5,500 mm and 3,350 mm, noting that these were unofficial. The final dimensions will be confirmed only after homologation. Yangwang is targeting Rolls-Royce Ghost, Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, Bentley Flying Spur, and China’s Maextro S800.

At the front is a grill made up of 137 elements polished like precious stones, and the lighting is inspired by ding, a Chinese ritual bronze vessel. It also features two-tone paint, an extended C-pillar, and polished wheels covered with full-size tires. The rear doors have hinges at the back and open at almost a 90-degree angle, with an umbrella hidden in their edge.

Two people sit in the back, each in a separate reclining seat with a footrest, and between them is a wide console with a control panel and an electrically adjustable compartment for champagne flutes. The windows are covered by electric blinds. The Shanhe Dingyun edition features a “brown rock and white jade” color scheme, jade from Hotan on the air vent grilles, gold-trimmed speaker grilles, and aramid material on the door sides. Buyers from this lineup also get priority for test drives and invitations to private showings.

Hu Xiaoqing, head of Yangwang’s sales department, said the car took three years to develop, with the front end undergoing over 100 design iterations. He was the one who announced the limousine on October 21, at which time it was still known by the code name HU.

Technology: lidar on the roof, rest are rumors

Basically, the only thing that’s confirmed is the lidar visible on the roof. The car is connected to God’s Eye driver assistance system, but BYD hasn’t described the sensor configuration or functions. Chinese media mention a Xuanji A3 processor using 4 nm technology. BYD separately announced a set of three chips with over 2100 TOPS of performance, though it didn’t associate them with the Altior.

Earlier reports spoke of an e⁴ platform with four engines (like in the U8 and U9) and active suspension. There were also rumors about batteries with solid electrolytes, although BYD plans to showcase such vehicles around 2027 and start mass production around 2030. For now, nothing of this has been confirmed, so we know even less about the Altior as an electric vehicle than about its other features.

A brand with low production volumes

According to CnEVPost, Yangwang sold 3,546 vehicles in the first ten months of 2026. In the same period of 2025, the figure was around 3,200, but October this year was the worst: 258 units compared to 654 the previous year. In addition to the Altior, the lineup includes the U7 sedan (plug-in and electric), the U8 and U8L SUVs, and the U9 supercar.

Abu Dhabi wasn’t chosen by chance. The brand is managed there by local distributor Al-Futtaim, and a day before the U9 Xtreme’s debut, it reached 503.17 km/h on a closed section of the E11 highway. Yangwang hasn’t commented on Altior’s sales in Europe.

From the editorial team: 399 limited editions is more than Yangwang sold in China throughout October. If the series sells out quickly, it will be a better test for the brand than another speed record.
