Volkswagen has expanded the lineup of its new electric ID. Cross SUV with the introduction of a smaller 37 kWh battery option, aimed at urban drivers and commuters seeking a lower-cost entry point into the brand's EV range. The new version is now available for order in Germany, with prices starting at €27,995 for the ID. Cross Trend, equipped with the 85 kW powertrain.
The 37 kWh battery joins the previously launched 52 kWh version that debuted alongside the ID. Cross earlier this year. Volkswagen says the new battery configuration combines reduced purchase and operating costs with a WLTP driving range of up to 324 kilometers, making it particularly well suited to daily commuting and city use.
Customers can choose between two electric drive outputs: 85 kW (116 PS) or 99 kW (135 PS). Regardless of power level, the ID. Cross reaches a top speed of 160 km/h, allowing it to serve not only as an urban vehicle but also as a practical option for highway journeys.
Charging capabilities remain a key selling point. The new battery supports DC fast charging at up to 90 kW, enabling a charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 23 minutes under suitable conditions. Volkswagen positions this as an important benefit for drivers looking to minimize charging stops during everyday use.
The 37 kWh battery can be paired with the Trend, Life and Style trim levels. While aimed at affordability, Volkswagen emphasizes that the smaller battery does not alter the vehicle's core character. The ID. Cross retains its compact SUV design, spacious interior, digital-focused cockpit and user-friendly controls.
Even the entry-level Trend specification includes features such as front and rear Park Distance Control and smartphone connectivity through App Connect. Moving up the range brings additional comfort and technology features, including Volkswagen's Connected Travel Assist system, which can utilize networked data to support predictive assisted driving. Higher-end options include a Harman Kardon audio system, panoramic sunroof, and 12-way electrically adjustable seats with massage functionality.
