An auto-ignition incident occurred with a Zeekra 7X at one of the charging stations in China. The cause of the fire was unclear, as the vehicle likely hadn’t been connected to the charger yet. According to the brand’s official statement, the car had previously been in a serious accident and might have been repaired at an unauthorized service center. Fortunately, the flames were brought under control quite quickly.

The Zeekra 7X Fire and Its Implications

The car definitely isn’t using the charger right behind it, as its cable is in the holder. However, it’s not certain it isn’t connected to the next red-and-white pole, since a taut wire can be seen there. The charging port on the Zeekra 7X is located at the back left — we have no chance of seeing it. Additionally, careful observers noticed that the electrician has the hood open and some plastics removed. It’s hard to determine whether the man next to him is a casual observer or perhaps the owner. If it’s the latter, then where did he put the plastics?

In the first phase, an internal self-ignition occurs, which likely sets off the air conditioning fluid, as flames burst out even from the front. Later, there are actual short circuits and electrical arcs that scatter sparks from the burning metal in all directions. It’s loud and intense, yet not even the tires catch fire, let alone the interior of the vehicle or the battery. According to CarNewsChina, the car was quickly extinguished:

The manufacturer claims that the aforementioned Zeekr 7X was involved in a serious traffic accident and has not been inspected or repaired by an authorized facility. The cause of the fire is unknown. Zeekr warns that vehicles should be thoroughly checked after accidents to avoid surprises. The same applies to used cars. In both China and Europe, the model is available with LFP and Li-NCX batteries. Zeekr mainly sells cars equipped with cells from CATL and its parent company Geely, and boasts that no spontaneous fires in its electric vehicles have been recorded that were not caused by external factors.
