Chinese Chery appeals with its prices: Tiggo 7 PHEV at 18.3 (~17) kWh starting at 120,900 PLN, Tiggo 8 PHEV at 139,400 PLN

The Chinese company Chery has announced a “final sale” for the 2025 models of certain vehicles. As part of this, two plug-in hybrids, the Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV and Tiggo 8 PHEV, both equipped with the same powertrain and an LFP battery with a capacity of 18.3 (~17) kWh, can be purchased at the price of traditional non-plug-in hybrids from other manufacturers. The prices are 120,900 and 139,400 zlotys respectively for the ability to travel several dozen kilometers on electric power. For comparison, the prices of VW Tiguana eHybrid start at 192,390 zlotys.

Chinese plug-in hybrids for those who want to drive on electricity but are concerned about short ranges

The Chery Tiggo PHEV and Tiggo 8 PHEV, as mentioned earlier, share the same powertrain featuring a battery with a capacity of 18.3 (~17) kWh and an electric motor producing 150 kW/204 hp, supplemented by a combustion engine. Chery often lists the combined maximum power of both powertrains, which causes confusion, as values around 300 hp usually correspond to weak acceleration from 0-100 km/h in the range of 8-9 seconds. There’s no need to worry too much about these figures, as Chery’s powertrains (along with those from Jaecoo and Omody) are designed to complement each other.

The Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV (4.55 m long with a wheelbase of 2.67 m; C-SUV) is a plug-in hybrid offering up to 90 WLTP miles of electric range, and thanks to its DC charging port, it can be recharged at a rate of up to 40 kW, resulting in a charging time from 30% to 80% at 20 minutes. It might not be cost-effective for long trips, but the situation could differ in urban areas. The vehicle comes standard with features such as V2L (power output), 360-degree cameras (“540 degrees”), an immobilizer and alarm, adaptive cruise control, two-zone climate control, electric driver and passenger seats, and suede upholstery.

The Chery Tiggo 8 PHEV is a model in the entry-level D-SUV segment, with a length of 4.725 meters and a wheelbase of 2.71 meters. It’s available in a version with an additional row of seats (5+2) and should be seen as a Tiggo 7 with an expanded cabin. The Tiggo 8 PHEV also promises a range of up to 90 WLTP units in pure electric mode, which gives around 77 kilometers of driving on battery before it needs to be recharged, meaning roughly 65-70 kilometers on electric power alone. In hybrid mode, the range is expected to exceed 900 kilometers. The car is priced starting at 139,400 złoty (source).
