Samsung OLED screen supply is expected to recover around year-end. Li Auto will temporarily use LCD screens of the same size to keep deliveries on schedule.

Free replacements with Samsung OLED screens will be arranged for affected vehicles starting March 1, 2027.

Li Auto's (NASDAQ: LI) new-generation Li Mega electric MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) is facing a shortage of Samsung 29-inch OLED screens used in its front cabin, prompting the company to temporarily deliver some vehicles with LCD screens.

Tang Jing, the Chinese EV maker's product line head, said on Weibo on Monday that the company had recently received unexpected notice from its partner of a temporary supply disruption affecting the custom screen. Supply is not expected to recover until around year-end.

The shortage will affect vehicles scheduled to roll off the production line from November 10 to December 17, covering all customers who locked in their orders between 5:06 pm Beijing Time on September 11 and 9:52 am on October 26.

The 29-inch 6K automotive-grade OLED panoramic screen is custom-made by Samsung for the Li Mega, and no other supplier currently offers a product with the same specifications, Tang said.

To keep deliveries on schedule, Li Auto will initially equip affected vehicles with the 29-inch 6K LCD screen used in the Li L9 Livis. The company said the 2 screens offer identical software and interaction experiences.

As Samsung OLED screen supply recovers, Li Auto plans to begin contacting affected customers in delivery order from March 1, 2027, to arrange free replacements with the original 29-inch OLED screen.

The Li Mega's front panoramic screen is designed to be independently removed and replaced, with the procedure taking just over 10 minutes, Tang said. The company pledged that the replacement would leave no damage or marks and would not affect vehicle quality or resale value.

Li Auto also pledged to maintain the same software experience and future over-the-air (OTA) updates before and after replacement. The replacement screen will carry the same 5-year or 100,000-kilometer (62,140-mile) warranty as the vehicle.

As compensation, the company will provide all affected customers with a 3-year Li Mega service package, including unlimited in-car data, unlimited vehicle pickup and return for maintenance and repairs, and air-conditioning filter maintenance.

Affected customers will receive the detailed terms through targeted notifications in the Li Auto app, while product specialists will begin contacting them individually on November 2.

The supply disruption comes as Li Mega deliveries rebound. Li Auto said yesterday that deliveries of the new Li Mega exceeded 3,000 vehicles in October, without providing an exact figure. The MPV recorded 2,318 deliveries in September.
