    Cyprus Expanding Public Charging Network

Cyprus’ Ministry of Transport plans to expand the island nation’s charging infrastructure. Currently, there are around 380 publicly accessible charging stations, with nearly 100 more set to be added within three years—including 18 chargers for heavy commercial vehicles.

  • Cyprus’ Transport Ministry specifically plans to build a total of 94 new fast-charging stations by 2028, funding them under the national recovery and resilience plan. The estimated cost is around 10 million euros. The project includes 76 charging stations for cars, each with a capacity of 150 kW, and 18 for heavy commercial vehicles, ranging from 350 to 200 kW in capacity.

Ten fast-charging stations from the new program have already been installed in publicly accessible locations for 840,660 euros—five of them at hospitals in Nicosia, Larnaca, Limassol, Kyperounta, and Famagusta. Additional stations are located at bus terminals and archaeological sites among other places.

As of now, there are already 384 publicly accessible charging stations in Cyprus across 221 locations. Of these, 76 are in Nicosia, 57 in Limassol, 32 in Paphos, 29 in Larnaca, and 27 in Famagusta. Sixteen new passenger car charging stations are planned for this year, with another 48 for passenger cars and 12 for commercial vehicles set to be added by 2027, followed by the remaining locations in 2028.
