If there was a brand that surprised us in our country last year, it was a Spanish one. We’re not referring to CUPRA — we’ve already tested its best-selling electric vehicle — nor to Seat, or even Liux. We’re talking, of course, about EBRO, which has just launched a 224 CV hybrid SUV for less than 23,000 euros.
Last year — the first full year in our market — this Spanish brand sold over 12,000 cars. Things are even better this year, with sales exceeding 20,000 units by last September. Moreover, the company expects to close 2026 with between 26,000 and 29,000 cars registered. So far, it has just achieved a key milestone: 200 million euros in financing.
200 million euros for its international expansion
The youngest Spanish brand—refounded in 2024—has just achieved an incredible milestone in its short existence: a 200 million euro loan over 10 years granted by the Export-Import Bank of China.
China? Yes, because it’s important to remember that EBRO is a technological partner of the giant Chery Group—which recently launched a hybrid with a range of 1,700 kilometers—and it shares ownership of the factory in the Barcelona Free Zone with Chery.
However, just because Chery was able to facilitate this 200 million euro financing doesn’t mean the Chinese bank views this loan as a bad deal by any means. After all, EBRO expects to sell 29,000 cars this year alone, and it has already begun expanding internationally to countries such as Portugal, Bulgaria, Slovenia, and Croatia.

Nevertheless, those 200 million euros—to be repaid over 10 years at an interest rate of 2.65%, plus 3 years of grace period—will not be used solely for the brand’s international expansion “in the near future,” but also, as the company stated in a press release, to establish “industrial capabilities at the plant” in Barcelona and to improve the overall vehicle manufacturing process, thereby increasing the company’s production capacity.

Two innovations to drive growth outside Spain
Given the recent launch of the S400 Plus, and with the arrival of the company’s first 100% electric car — which, as the company announced, will come before the end of the year and still lacks an official name — it’s clear what’s on the horizon. The Spanish brand aims to exceed 29,000 cars sold in the coming years, with 2026 being a target year for that goal.
While SUVs will remain their main focus for car sales, this new EBRO electric vehicle, already known to be 4.3 meters long, will be equipped with a 121 CV engine and will compete directly with models like the BYD Dolphin. It will boost sales and expand the market for the Spanish brand — and thanks to those 200 million euros, not only in Spain.
