Xpeng X9, first impressions. The perfect car for me, for CEOs, and for those who were considering a Mercedes EQV

Xpeng X9, first impressions. The perfect car for me, for CEOs, and for those who were considering a Mercedes EQV

Thanks to the kindness of Xpeng’s Polish branch, I had the opportunity today to take a close look at the Xpeng X9 (minivan, 5.316 meters long, 3.16 meters wheelbase, 7 seats). I checked personally that the TV in the cabin is very securely mounted, and I was surprised to hear that interest in this model has turned out to be surprisingly high, with the dozen or so units ordered as test models potentially selling out quite quickly. The prices of the Xpeng X9 in Poland start at 324,900 Polish zlotys, with three variants to choose from.

To keep it brief, the Polish configurator for the Xpeng X9 is HERE. The car is available in three versions: the Xpeng X9 Standard Range, priced at 324,900 złoty, comes with front-wheel drive and an LFP battery with a capacity of 94.8 (~93) kWh, offering up to 535 WLTP miles of range. The next version in the lineup is the Xpeng X9 Long Range Pro, priced at 349,900 złoty, which replaces the LFP battery with a Li-NCM battery having a capacity of 110 (~105) kWh, resulting in the highest range in the series at 615 WLTP miles.

At the top of the range is the Xpeng X9 AWD Performance Pro, priced at 389,900 złoty. It features the same battery plus a second engine that drives the rear wheels. Its range reaches 580 WLTP miles:

Those who wanted to take a close look at the car to form their own opinion could do so in Warsaw on June 19. On June 21 (Sunday), the car will be in Opole, on June 23 in Katowice, on June 25 (Thursday) in Poznan, on June 27 in Gdańsk, and on June 29 in Bydgoszcz.

The car sold in Poland comes with two battery capacities and two engine configurations (FWD, AWD), but otherwise we get practically everything standard: 20-inch wheels, air suspension, heating, ventilation, and massages in the front, heating, ventilation, and massages in the cabin, a panoramic glass roof, a 21.4-inch display that unfolds from the roof, 7 years of warranty, a fridge/heater in the center console (11 liters, temperature range from 0 to 50 degrees), 721 liters of trunk space with all seats folded down (even in the Performance version with a rear engine), an audio system with 27 speakers, 10-80 percent charging in 12 minutes, Nappa leather (rows 1+2), swiveling wheels on the rear axle, an active noise reduction system, …

We will only pay extra for the tow hook and metallic paint.

The Xpeng X9 cabin: I’m 1.9 meters tall and sit alone in the back. There’s a pull-out refrigerator next to my left thigh. A screen unfolds from the roof.

In the Xpeng X9 cabin, view from behind the first row of seats. Two adult men are sitting in the third row—the one on the left is also 1.9 meters tall, while the one on the right is 1.8 meters tall. Neither of them complains about lack of space.

The backrests in the last row can be reclined far back, but the ergonomic seat adjustment feature (“Gravity Seats”) is only available in the second row.

Xpeng X9, third row seat. The seat moved so I could sit down, then returned to its original position, leaving a few centimeters for my knees. When I tried to lock it mid-way (“Will it crush my legs?”), it stopped immediately and retracted.

Impressions

We approached the car’s launch with skepticism, knowing that the performance of the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9 has been rather unsatisfactory for distributors in Poland. It turns out the company thought similarly, but was persuaded since the X9 was deemed an important part of their expansion strategy. Interest in the model turned out to be quite high, with estimated sales reaching several dozen units. So far, 13 X9s have been ordered in the country, and further orders might not be fulfilled quickly, as the factory in China is shifting focus to the Xpeng GX, which has become a huge hit there. The estimated delivery time for the new car is January 2027.

View from the driver’s seat. As a owner of a family car, I was surprised not to have a mirror that shows the entire cabin, and I also missed having storage compartments on the roof.

The classic test: the route from Warsaw to Chojnów. The Xpeng X9 claimed that with a battery charged to 92 percent (top right corner), it could cover 450 kilometers on expressways and highways and still have 6 percent of battery left upon arrival. This is not true; the journey would require at least one stop to charge, even with a fully charged battery.

The Xpeng X9 is definitely a car for me, a father of four children. There are two problems: its length of over 5.3 meters is quite problematic when parking under apartment buildings, not to mention city parking lots (the car will stick out). Also, such a family doesn’t always have 6,000–7,000 zlotys in cash for monthly leasing payments, let alone 350,000 zlotys for the car itself. I don’t like taking loans, and I don’t have 350,000 zlotys in cash either. In short: theoretically I fit the target group, but in practice I’m excluded due to my income level.

The trunk capacity of the Xpeng X9 is 721 liters. The rear engine is located under the third row of seats. Those who will be testing this car are asked not to read the WiFi hotspot password stored in the settings, which is www.elektrowoz.pl, as it is also the password for the Elektrowoz dashboard, bank accounts, and everything else

Therefore, I believe the ideal customers for the X9 would be those who were once tempted or almost tempted to buy a Mercedes EQV – they will be greatly surprised to find that the Chinese are far better at producing vans. Among potential buyers of the Xpeng X9, we also see high-ranking members of Opus Dei, as their status gives them substantial cash resources to spend, and they have quite large families. This seems like the most fitting approach to us: the target customer for the X9 doesn’t necessarily need to have children. The key is that they should have money and enjoy traveling in high comfort.

Note from ŁB: it’s actually parking that makes the Ioniq 9 closer to my heart Though, interestingly, technologically I’m starting to trust the Chinese more than the Koreans, especially after Hyundai/Kia’s issues with ICCU. 12 minutes of charging at a super-fast charger is also quite appealing.
