Xpeng is introducing remote vehicle diagnostics and online troubleshooting in Europe. Currently, select markets.

Xpeng announced on X that it will introduce remote diagnostics services in certain European markets. A customer service technician will be able to check certain aspects of the car’s operation remotely and even resolve software or “operational” issues. The promotional video suggests that the most universal solution will be “please restart the system”

Remote car diagnostics – that’s it. It’s best if it’s proactive.

Let’s start with the promotional video. It’s quite amusing to see how strong an accent the actors in it have. It seems the producer wants to clearly signal that they place particular emphasis on customers from Germany and France, the two largest electric vehicle markets in the European Union. According to the descriptions, remote diagnosis will handle rather trivial issues with the multimedia system, phone connection, or V2L, which can be resolved by clearing the temporary memory and restarting the system:

The Xpeng media page still has no mention of the new service, so we can only speculate about which markets will be served first (see: note on focus). The situation may be similar to that with Tesla’s Superchargers: Poland is the second-to-last market in terms of speed at adopting electric vehicles, so new Superchargers appear here around the same time as in Croatia (the last on the list). But this is just speculation by our editorial team; the Polish press office has not yet provided us with a detailed response.

The most interesting aspect is privacy. The video suggests that this feature might have been available a year ago and that the driver would need to request remote diagnostics. The latter implies that there’s no possibility of potentially malicious operators remotely accessing cars. However, if artificial intelligence is used for analysis, the fear of human interference would disappear, allowing Xpeng vehicles to diagnose themselves and proactively resolve certain issues (for example, by restarting every day at 4 a.m.).

Currently, vehicles from many manufacturers can be diagnosed remotely, but this still requires a visit to a workshop and “connecting a computer.”
