Xpeng has warned owners of the G6 and G9 not to use hooks for bike trailers.

Polish owners of Xpeng G6 and G9 have received messages from the manufacturer about a potential issue with the tow hook. The recommendation is very specific: until further analysis is complete, it is not allowed to attach bike racks or similar accessories to the hook. Trailers can still be towed as per the instructions.
Xpeng has been brief on the details. It did not specify whether the issue relates to the hook itself, its mounting, a particular part batch, the number of vehicles, or the VIN range. For now, this appears to be more of a warning during investigation rather than a standard service action with a ready fix.
The ban applies to vertical loading, not towing
The announcement distinguishes between two things: towing a trailer and vertical loading that acts directly on the hook’s ball. The latter refers to bike racks, usually for 2, 3, or 4 bikes, where the weight of the luggage and bikes hangs directly on the hook.
Xpeng makes it clear here: such accessories should not be used at this time. Meanwhile, the manufacturer notes that the G6 and G9 can still tow trailers and campers, as long as the driver adheres to the limits specified in the user manual.
This is an important distinction, because some people might assume that since trailers are allowed, a lightweight bike rack would also be permitted. It won’t be. At least not for now.
If someone owns a G6 or G9 with a hitch but hasn’t received any notification, it would be wise to check with the service center about their VIN before a vacation trip with bikes. The season is in full swing, and such details can ruin plans.
G6 and G9 in Poland: from 194,900 to 315,900 PLN
The article covers two models already available in our market. The Xpeng G6 is a competitor to the Tesla Model Y, measuring 4758 mm in length and 2890 mm in wheelbase. In Poland, it starts at 194,900 zł for the RWD Air Standard Range version, which has 252 HP and a WLTP range of up to 480 km.
Upgraded is the G6 RWD Long Range Pro: it offers 297 HP, a WLTP range of up to 535 km, and costs starting at 223,900 zł. The top-tier G6 AWD Performance Pro model has 487 HP and costs starting at 247,900 zł. The newer versions utilize an 800 V architecture, with a claimed DC charging power of 451 kW. On paper, this is quite impressive.
The Xpeng G9 is a larger flagship SUV with a length of 4891 mm and a wheelbase of 2998 mm. The RWD Standard Range Pro version costs starting at 252,900 zł, has 351 HP, and a WLTP range of up to 502 km. The Long Range Pro version retains 351 HP but increases the range to 585 km WLTP, with a price starting at 269,900 zł.
At the top is the G9 AWD Performance Pro: it boasts 575 HP, a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 4.2 seconds, and a price starting at 315,900 zł.
For now, one thing is most important: the issue doesn’t prevent towing, but it renders bike racks mounted on hooks unusable. Who among you drives a G6 or G9 and has already received such a message from Xpeng?
