Xpeng L05: The larger sibling of the L03 with a WLTP range of up to 521 km is set to arrive in Europe in early 2027

Xpeng continues to expand its model lineup: following the L03, the Xpeng L05 is next. This 4.87-meter-long mid-size SUV was unveiled in China as the Xpeng Mona L05; it is set to arrive in Europe at the beginning of 2027. The manufacturer plans to disclose details and prices for Europe at the Brussels Motor Show (starting January 8), but the information from China allows us to infer its key features.
Compared to the Xpeng L03, which was introduced in July, the L05 is 22 cm longer and about four centimeters taller. Here are the specifications for the Chinese version, taken from a report by CarNewsChina:

At 4.87 meters, the new model is almost as long as the Xpeng G9 (4.89 meters). Its design features Y-shaped front lights, a closed front end, a curved roofline, rear windows that taper toward the back, and recessed folding handles, drawing strong similarities to the L03. The main differences include black accents on the wheel arches:

So far, there is only one German press photo of the L05, but based on the information and images from CarNewsChina, the rear end appears similar to that of the L03. The cockpit is likely to look similar as well. Although the images from China don’t show any instrument display, the L03 also lacked one. In China, there are also variants without this monitor, which is standard in Germany.

The trunk is significantly larger than that of the L03, ranging from 702 to 1,913 liters, compared to 539 to 1,640 liters for the L03 (367 to 1,131 liters according to the VDA volume method). Like the L03, it also has a 102-liter frunk space.
In China, the battery-electric Xpeng L05 is always offered with an 183-kW rear-wheel drive system. The Chinese version of the L03 was also specified with 183 kW, while Europe lists 180 kW — so it is likely the L05 will have the same rear-wheel drive as the L03. While the L03 and L05 are only available as rear-wheel drive models in China, the European L05 is expected to include the same 285-kW all-wheel drive version as the L03. In our table, we have included the unconfirmed AWD version in parentheses:

For the battery, one can choose between two LFP variants. The storage capacities (likely gross values) are the same as those of the L03. Notably, CarNewsChina has also provided WLTP range figures, which are only slightly lower than those of the L03.
There are no details available regarding charging capabilities yet, but assuming the same batteries as in the L03 are used, the smaller battery should be able to charge to 80% in 20 minutes at up to 193 kW, while the larger battery can achieve the same level of charge in the same time at up to 236 kW. Despite the high charging power of 236 kW, the Xpeng L03 uses a 400-volt system according to the manufacturer; the same is likely true for the L05.
Otherwise, Xpeng promises “state-of-the-art” artificial intelligence, ample space, and high practicality. At its core is an AI chip developed by Xpeng itself named “Turing.” In the model lineup, the L05 is positioned above the L03. We would describe both as coupe-SUVs. This distinguishes the L05 from the similarly sized Xpeng G9. Additionally, the G9 is an 800-volt model, while the L05 is likely to operate at 400 volts.

In summary
Xpeng is bringing the L05, a larger version of the L03, to Europe. Officially, almost nothing is known about the European version yet, but the similarities to the L03 are obvious: although the new model is 22 cm longer than the L03, it is likely to feature the same technology. It differs from the practically identical-sized Xpeng G9 in its coupe-like design and lower seating position. Prices are likely to be slightly higher than those of the L03, which starts at 36,600 euros. However, for psychological reasons, Xpeng might try to keep the base price below 40,000 euros.
