The Xpeng G9L will arrive in Europe on October 12. This 5.12-meter SUV from Austria aims for a higher position than the G9.

Xpeng will unveil the G9L model at the Paris Auto Show on October 12, 2026, with European versions set to be produced at the Magna Steyr factory in Graz. It is a large 5.12-meter electric SUV priced at 241,800 yuan in China, which is approximately 36,050 dollars.

For Europe, two things are most interesting. First, local assembly in Austria. Second, Xpeng aims to position it above the standard G9, moving closer to a family-oriented premium model with screens, a refrigerator, and a flexible rear axle.

What can the Xpeng G9L do?

The G9L measures 5,120 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, 1,782 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 3,100 mm. Despite these dimensions, the manufacturer offers only five seats. This clearly indicates that space and amenities were given priority over forcing in a third row of seats.

The interior features Huawei headlights with road projection and a 98-inch external projector screen. Inside, there’s a large central screen, a narrow set of LCD gauges, an AR display, a 9-inch digital mirror, a screen for the rear passenger, and a 21.4-inch ceiling screen. Additionally, it has three Turing AI chips with a combined processing power of 2250 TOPS.

The list of amenities is long: four doors with locking, a 12.5-liter refrigerator, seats with heating, ventilation, and massage functions, a 50 W induction charger, a foldable table in the rear armrest, 33 speakers, and a trunk with a capacity of 1152 liters. It also has a rear steering axis, giving it a turning radius of 4.96 meters. For a car of this size, that’s quite impressive.

In the electric version, it’s powered by a RWD motor with 270 kW of power and 0-100 km/h acceleration in 6.8 seconds. The 91.9 kWh LFP battery is said to offer up to 702 km of CLTC range. The AWD variant adds a front motor with 160 kW, raising the total system power to 430 kW. Range drops to 660 km of CLTC range with the same battery. There’s also a larger 110 kWh pack claiming 755 km of CLTC range. On paper, it looks good, but the CLTC figures in Europe should always be interpreted with adjustments.

There’s also an EREV version, but Europe is currently focusing mainly on EVs

Xpeng has also developed the G9L as an EREV model. This version features two motors, one with 160 kW in the front and another with 230 kW at the back, totaling 370 kW, along with 0-100 km/h acceleration in 4.95 seconds. The 63.3 kWh LFP battery from CALB is intended to provide 435 km of CLTC electric range, while a 1.5 turbo gasoline engine with 110 kW operates as a generator. The fuel tank holds 60 liters, and the manufacturer claims a total range of 1602 km of CLTC.

The pre-discount price of the G9L in China is 241,800–319,800 yuan, which is approximately 36,050–47,680 dollars. European prices are not available yet, but assembly in Graz suggests it will not be cheap. It is more of a competitor to large, well-equipped SUVs rather than a price war with the Tesla Model Y.

The second issue is less favorable for the manufacturer. According to China EV DataTracker, Xpeng sold 241,111 vehicles from January to August 2026, a 10.5 percent year-on-year decline. The company aims to sell 600,000 vehicles by the end of the year, meaning it would need to sell around 89,750 vehicles per month in the last four months. In short, the plan is very ambitious.

The G9L itself may help the brand in Europe, but it does not seem like a model that will single-handedly save its annual results. Which do you think matters more here: Austrian production or just a large, luxury SUV with Chinese origins?
