Xiaomi Skynomad N70: the 416 HP, 505 km electric range plug-in SUV targeting Europe in 2027

Xiaomi has just started selling the Skynomad N70 in China, a five-seater SUV that expands the company’s lineup with a configuration still relatively uncommon in Europe: an electric vehicle equipped with an extended range version (EREV) and a high-capacity battery. The price starts at 209,900 yuan, which is approximately 26,900 euros at current exchange rates, placing it below other SUVs with similar features in the Chinese market.

What’s interesting for Europe is that the N70 is part of the new Skynomad family, designed by Xiaomi to offer vehicles focused more on space, comfort, and versatility. Xiaomi has already confirmed it plans to enter the European market in the second half of 2027, though it has not yet announced which specific Skynomad models will be available or what their specifications will be.

A nearly five-meter SUV with an interior designed for travel

The Xiaomi Skynomad N70 is a five-seater SUV that measures 4.96 meters in length, 1.998 meters in width, and 1.765 meters in height, with a wheelbase of 2.95 meters. These dimensions are quite substantial for the European market, to the point where the N70 is longer than models like the Mercedes-Benz GLE. It can be equipped with 19 or 21-inch tires and is available in six body colors: blue, beige, gray, green, black, and white.

The design follows a fairly recognizable pattern seen in recent Xiaomi models, featuring a relatively square-shaped body, horizontal front optical groups, partially hidden door handles, and a rear lighting strip that runs along most of the trunk lid. It doesn’t aim to go unnoticed, but it also avoids overly complex shapes. The idea seems clear: to offer a tech-oriented appearance without sacrificing the feel of a large, practical SUV.

It is inside where the Skynomad N70 tries to make a difference. The front seats can rotate up to 180 degrees, while the rear seats allow a recline of up to 135 degrees. The front seats also come with 16-point massage and zero-gravity functions, whereas the rear seats feature heating and ventilation. The goal is to enable the cabin to be used both for traveling and resting during stops.

The driver’s area is dominated by a 16.1-inch central screen, along with an 8.8-inch instrument cluster and a system for projecting information onto the windshield. Behind, passengers can enjoy a 21.4-inch screen mounted on the ceiling and a 9-liter refrigerator. Higher-trim versions also feature up to 25 speakers, ambient lighting in 256 colors, and various options to turn the cabin into a workspace or relaxation area.

The absence of a traditional center tunnel allows for better utilization of the space between the front seats. Xiaomi has paid special attention to the second row, which can be moved forward to create up to 1,410 mm of legroom. The trunk offers 1,203 liters in normal configuration and expands to 2,425 liters with the rear seats folded down. This is one of those cases where the vehicle’s exterior dimensions directly translate into more interior space.

Technology also plays a significant role. The N70 is equipped with nine airbags and a driving assistance system that combines LiDAR sensors with Nvidia Thor-U processor, capable of achieving up to 700 TOPS of computing power. Built on this foundation is the Xiaomi HAD system, which enables the use of navigation assistance features in roads and urban areas in China.

Regarding the propulsion system, the Skynomad N70 uses an electric configuration with an extended range electric vehicle (EREV) setup. This means the wheels are powered by electric motors, with the gasoline engine not directly driving them but instead generating electricity when needed. Xiaomi employs a 1.5-liter, 112 kW (152 HP) gasoline engine as an EREV component, a solution that allows for a much larger battery than what’s typical in conventional hybrids.

The Chinese lineup is divided into two versions. The N70 Pro features a 210 kW (282 HP) electric motor and rear-wheel drive, along with a 52 kWh LFP battery. This version claims 351 kilometers of electric range according to the CLTC cycle, and a total range of 1,351 kilometers when including fuel and battery capacity.

Above it is the N70 Max, which adds two electric motors, all-wheel drive, and a combined power output of 310 kW (416 HP). Its battery capacity increases to 76 kWh using NMC chemistry, with an advertised electric range of 505 kilometers under the CLTC cycle. The total range reaches 1,461 kilometers using the same Chinese certification method. Xiaomi has officially confirmed these figures for the Max version.

The N70 Max also features a pneumatically adjustable suspension and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds, with a top speed of 190 km/h. Its turning radius is 5.67 meters, a particularly interesting figure considering it is an SUV nearly five meters long.

One must be careful, however, when comparing its range figures to those of European electric cars. The 505 kilometers figure corresponds to the CLTC cycle, which is much more favorable than the WLTP standard used in Europe. References of up to 414 kilometers under WLTP have been published for the higher version, but this figure should still be considered a reference rather than a final European approval.

In China, the Xiaomi Skynomad N70 Pro currently starts at 209,900 yuan, which is about 26,900 euros at the exchange rate, while the N70 Max costs 239,900 yuan, approximately 30,800 euros.

Xiaomi plans to enter Europe in the second half of 2027, according to the company’s internal documents, though there is no official confirmation yet that the N70 will be one of the models chosen for this entry. What is clear, however, is that Xiaomi is rapidly expanding its car lineup, and the Skynomad represents a second approach to its SU7 and YU7 electric vehicles: cars with a more family-oriented design and the ability to travel long distances without relying solely on charging.

If the N70 does make it to Europe, it will need to undergo several changes before going on sale: WLTP certification, adjustments to the equipment and assistance systems, and compliance with European safety standards. The pricing remains to be determined.
