With just a couple of years in operation, Xiaomi has become one of the most significant automotive companies in the global market. Its first cars have piqued the interest of many Chinese and foreign drivers. The lineup has expanded with the recent introduction of the Skynomad series, but Xiaomi Auto isn’t done yet.

According to Chinese sources, the company might use the name SU9 Lux for a new luxury executive sedan. It would be similar to a Mercedes Class S, representing an upgrade in its sedan lineup currently led by the Xiaomi SU7. This information comes from an official trademark registration, where the name appeared. It could be linked to a long-wheelbase sedan that was seen in tests and previously known as Xiaomi SU7L.

What the trademark registration says

Xiaomi SU9 Lux

Xiaomi filed a trademark application for “XIAOMI SU9 LUX” on February 13, 2026. It was submitted under Class 12, which covers automobiles. The application was published for preliminary approval in issue No. 1986 of the trademark gazette on June 6. The deadline to submit objections was from June 7 to September 6.

It’s important not to overhype this news. A trademark registration does not guarantee that the actual car will be named this way. “Lux” might refer to luxury, fitting a high-end model, but Xiaomi has not confirmed it. The company could use another unknown name, as was the case with the Skynomad models, which were originally planned to be called YU9.

Over 5.2 meters long with rear comfort as a key feature

Xiaomi SU9 Lux Front

Camouflaged prototypes linked to the SU7 Lux have appeared several times on Chinese social media. The latest spy photos show a vehicle that is noticeably longer than the SU7. Its body shape is very similar, which could imply a wide range of possibilities.

Estimates suggest it is over 5.2 meters long with a wheelbase of around 3.1 meters. Everything indicates that this longer body design is intended to provide more space in the second row. It’s the classic approach for luxury sedans: stretching out the vehicle so the rear passenger can feel as comfortable as if they were in their own living room.

If that approach is confirmed, Xiaomi would have two paths to lead its premium lineup. One is the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, focused on performance. The other is this new model, emphasizing passenger space and comfort. So far, there are no details on the engine, battery, or charging capabilities, which remain the biggest unknowns.

A fading SU7 and growing SUV presence

Xiaomi

The SU7 was Xiaomi’s first car and went on sale in March 2024. It was followed by the SU7 Ultra in February 2025 and the new generation of the SU7 in March 2026. In August, Xiaomi announced that cumulative deliveries of the SU7 series had exceeded 500,000 units in 28.5 months, but the pace has slowed down. In less than 3 years, the brand surpassed the 800,000-unit mark. In September, it delivered 15,751 units, a 19.55% decrease from the previous year. At the start of the year, with the generation change, sales plummeted to 1,133 units in January and 218 units in February.

Xiaomi is also expanding beyond sedans. Its new range of long-range SUVs, launched in September, delivered 12,444 units that same month and has become a new source of sales. In total, Xiaomi Auto delivered 40,015 cars in September. It was the best month of the year, representing a 32.71% increase from August, though still 4.61% lower than in September 2025. The figures explain this trend. With the SU7 facing declining sales, Xiaomi needs new models to continue growing, and a large, luxury sedan would allow it to compete in a higher-margin segment. It remains to be seen whether the SU9 Lux will be an extended version of the SU7 or a car with its own unique technology.
