Xiaomi designs its own battery: called Longjia, and it’s so confident in its product that it will give you a car if it catches fire

The traditional approach to sourcing components in the electric vehicle industry often forces manufacturers to act merely as buyers of pre-assembled modules. Xiaomi has chosen to break this tradition by forming a strategic partnership with CALB and Sunwoda Power to jointly develop what is known as the Longjia battery. This tech company thus takes direct control over product specifications, pack design, cell configuration, and quality oversight throughout the entire supply chain.
This industrial diversification means expanding the supplier base after relying primarily on CATL for the SU7 sedans and the early versions of the YU7 SUV. Bringing in new partners is aimed at controlling manufacturing costs and adapting the mechanics to the new SkyNomad hybrid lineup, designed to compete in the family SUV segment priced between 200,000 and 300,000 yuan, which is roughly equivalent to 26,000 and 39,000 euros. Xiaomi is so confident in the quality of its new batteries that it offers an unprecedented warranty.
Cell architecture for extended-range mechanics
The first cars to feature the Longjia package are the SkyNomad N70 Max and N90 Max models. The N70 Max is positioned as a large SUV with five seats, priced at 259,900 yuan on pre-order (approximately 33,787 euros at current exchange rates). The N90 Max increases seating capacity to seven and has a pre-order price of 299,900 yuan, equivalent to 38,987 euros. Xiaomi claims these electric SUVs offer the longest range in the market, exceeding 500 kilometers according to the CLTC cycle.
In extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) architectures, the battery pack undergoes frequent charging and discharging cycles due to the continuous operation of the auxiliary thermal motor. To ensure the reliability of this system, Xiaomi has introduced the Longjia peace of mind program, which provides comprehensive mechanical coverage and specific warranties for first buyers.
Individual thermal isolation and millisecond-level switching
In terms of technical specifications, the Dragonscale package introduces significant changes to the heat containment architecture. Its key mechanical components include high-voltage insulators with millisecond-level response times, along with a reinforced design featuring redundant insulating materials between cells. The electrical architecture incorporates a battery management system developed by Xiaomi called Cloud BMS, which continuously monitors the electrochemical status of the cells using AI-based cloud sensors.
In full-load certification tests at an ambient temperature of 55 degrees Celsius, the brand has confirmed that a single cell fire remains contained and does not spread to the rest of the module. Additionally, strict selection of raw materials and optimized manufacturing processes ensure that it far exceeds China’s national standards regarding service life and charging cycles.
Coverage and Installation Conditions for the Skynomad Range
Xiaomi’s lifetime coverage for its new Skynomad models with Longjia batteries comes with very specific terms. It applies only to first-time individual owners for non-commercial use, excluding rental vehicles or delivery fleets. Additionally, users must keep the vehicle’s connected services active and perform required mechanical maintenance at the brand’s official service centers. If these requirements are met, Xiaomi promises to provide a completely new car if the first one catches fire. So far, Xiaomi has not clarified whether its new battery will also be included in its electric vehicle lineup.
