Orlen Charge summer rates: 2.19 zł/kWh for DC, 1.59 zł/kWh for AC. Promotion has started. Plus: the first ultra-fast charger in Poland

Orlen has announced a promotional charging rate for the summer. Starting Friday, June 26, at 9:00 AM, fast DC charging will cost 2.19 PLN/kWh regardless of the connection speed. For those using AC charging, the rate will now be 1.59 PLN/kWh. The promotion lasts until the start of the school year,即 Tuesday, September 1, at 9:00 AM.

Poland’s First Ultra-Fast Charger

The price changes are as follows:

DC: 2.69 → 2.19 PLN/kWh, -50 groszy/kWh, -18.6 percent,

AC: 1.95 → 1.59 PLN/kWh, -36 groszy/kWh, -18.5 percent.

The rates may not be extremely good, but they are decent if the main “cost” for owning an electric car besides electricity is registering in the Orlen Vitay app (Android HERE, iPhone/iOS HERE). It should also be noted that Orlen Charge’s spring promotion, during which drivers paid 2.15 PLN/kWh for DC charging, recently ended. This gradually makes it clear that during periods of high availability of electricity (spring, summer), operators can easily lower prices to around 2-2.2 PLN/kWh.

For comparison: Tesla charges between 2 and about 2.8 PLN/kWh at Superchargers when using them during peak hours and without owning a Tesla or having an energy replenishment subscription, meaning under extremely unfavorable conditions for us (Tesla Supercharger Map HERE). If we are driving a Tesla or decide to purchase a subscription, charging costs are usually around 1.8 PLN/kWh even during peak hours, and drop to 1.5 or even 1.1 PLN/kWh outside of those times. Drivers heading to vacation destinations should keep this in mind.

The current map of Orlen Charge charging stations is available HERE, with the app version being more user-friendly. It’s worth going through the installation and registration process rather than doing it at the charger itself, as things may not work properly during holiday weekends (see: the start of vacation!). Owners of Chinese electric cars (especially Xpengs) should pay special attention to the charging station at MOP Gruczno Zachód on route 5 (Google Maps HERE), as it is the first ultra-fast charger in Poland. Its claimed power is 600 kW.

Unfortunately, the facility is located on a north-south route, meaning it’s on the wrong side of the road for today’s trips. Additionally, it received some negative reviews when it first opened a few months ago, so it’s better not to drive there with a completely empty battery.

Note from Elektrowozu’s editorial team: We consider chargers to be “ultra-fast” if they offer a power output of 400 watts or more. Devices with up to 400 kW (inclusive) are classified as “fast”.
