VW ID.3 GTI: The electric sports car comes with 240 kW (326 HP) and a range of 601 kilometers

VW introduces the new ID.3 GTI on the 50th anniversary of the GTI series, releasing the first photos and technical specifications for this sports version of the ID.3 electric vehicle line. With 240 kW (326 horsepower), it is the most powerful GTI model ever produced in series. The electric motor delivers up to 545 Nm of torque to the rear axle, and its range is up to 601 kilometers according to WLTP standards.

The ID.3 GTI accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds, with its top speed limited at 200 km/h. It comes standard with launch control as well as a DCC sports suspension system. The lithium-ion battery has a net energy capacity of 79 kWh and can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in about 29 minutes at a maximum rate of 183 kW.

The front features standard “IQ.Light – LED Matrix headlights,” a transparent light bar with an illuminated VW logo and the red stripes typical of the GTI. Additional elements include vertical LED strips in the bumper, a high-gloss black mesh grille, and red accents in the lower section. The front spoiler, designed as a splitter, also incorporates design elements described as a nod to motorsport.

The standard equipment includes new 20-inch lightweight alloy wheels named “Wörthersee.” The mirror caps and side skirts are finished in high-gloss black, while the roof, roof edge spoiler, and trunk lid are colored in the vehicle’s paint shade, unlike on the previous ID.3 GTX model. Available colors are “Tornadorot Uni,” “Mondsteingrau Uni,” “Scale Silver Metallic,” “Grenadillschwarz Metallic,” and “Gletscherweiß Metallic.”

The interior is dominated by a red and black color scheme. A red stripe runs across the dashboard, along with a red 12 o’clock marker on the multifunction sports steering wheel, as well as premium sports seats featuring the “Superclark” pattern. This seat design reinterprets the tartan pattern from the original 1976 Golf GTI seats.

The illuminated GTI button on the steering wheel allows the “GTI” driving profile to be activated in addition to “Eco,” “Comfort,” “Sport,” and “Individual.” This mode sets the electric motor, progressive steering, and adaptive DCC sports suspension to their most sporty settings, and launch control can be enabled. At the same time, the ambient lighting, “ID. Light,” and the “Digital Cockpit” change their display, while the sound of a combustion engine accompanies the experience.

The cockpit, like the entire vehicle, is based on the latest ID.3 generation named ID.3 Neo and features a larger “Digital Cockpit” along with a 12.9-inch touch display from the “Innovision” infotainment series. Below the display is a keypad for climate controls and warning lights, followed by the center console with a rotary knob for volume control and a skip function. Optional features include a panoramic roof, massage and memory functions, a 480-watt Harman Kardon sound system, and an augmented-reality head-up display.

An optional feature is also a removable attachment for a bike rack, along with the “Vehicle-to-Load” (V2L) function via the “PowerSocket” adapter. Among the assist systems are a memory function for “Park Assist Pro” and the latest version of “Travel Assist,” which can now respond to traffic lights for the first time, automatically braking the vehicle until it comes to a stop when a red light is detected.

Preliminary sales for the ID.3 GTI are set to begin in early 2027. Prices have not been revealed yet, but they are likely to exceed 50,000 euros.
