VW ID. Tiguan: Successor to ID.4 and ID.5 coming in 2027

Volkswagen is applying the Tiguan name to an electric vehicle as well, following the ID. Polo and ID. Cross: the ID. Tiguan will replace the ID.4 and ID.5 and is set to hit the market in early 2027. The announcement does not specify whether a coupe-style variant similar to the ID.5 will be offered in the future. Volkswagen only states that the ID. Tiguan will replace the two existing models.

Familiar Names Instead of Numbers

With the new naming strategy, Volkswagen is gradually moving away from purely numerical ID series designations. Instead, established model names are intended to help customers understand the vehicle’s category. The manufacturer explains that a familiar name corresponds to a clearly defined vehicle concept, so those who know the Tiguan can roughly anticipate what to expect from the ID. Volkswagen’s brand head, Thomas Schäfer, cites production figures to support this approach: over 8.3 million Tiguans have been manufactured to date. Design: Unique style rather than internal combustion engine appearance

Volkswagen states that the ID. Tiguan has been completely redesigned to resemble a vehicle from the next higher class in terms of appearance. The images of the camouflaged prototypes released so far show a narrow light strip that connects the headlights at the front. The rear features horizontally arranged tail lights, a brand logo positioned in the center, and a roof edge spoiler. A roof rail and a sloping roof line complete the SUV’s proportions.

Technical specifications are still pending

Volkswagen has not yet provided details on the drive system, performance, battery capacity, range, and charging speed. There is also no information available regarding prices or trim levels. These specifics are likely to be unveiled with the world premiere in early October. Of particular interest will be the technical foundation on which the new model is built, as well as how its range and charging speed compare to the ID.4 and ID.5.
