VW ID. Polo sold out for months ahead
In Europe, a waiting list is apparently forming for the VW ID. Polo even before the start of deliveries — at least for individual configurations. The waiting time is said to be at least ten months, according to a major VW dealership group. So far, VW has registered over 30,000 orders across Europe.
VW opened the European order books for the new ID. Polo in April following its world premiere. Initially, the price list started at €33,795 for the mid-range ‘Life’ trim. Recently, the most affordable variant, the ID. Polo Trend, became configurable from €24,995, showing that the long-promised VW electric car under €25,000 has well and truly arrived.
As reported by the German automotive trade publication, Automobilwoche, the small B-segment electric car has immediately generated significant interest. The trade journal quotes the head of a major VW dealership group as saying that the entire ID. Polo range is sold out, and the waiting time is at least ten months. VW told Automobilwoche that the combination of “very positive customer demand” and the long-term planned production capacities at the Martorell plant currently leads to longer delivery times. Delivery dates are expected to vary depending on individual configurations.
Overall, VW has confirmed more than 30,000 orders across Europe. According to a company spokesperson quoted in the report, the ID. Polo has “significantly exceeded original expectations, particularly in Germany.” Demand for the sister models in the electric small car family from Škoda and Cupra is also said to be significantly higher than anticipated. Škoda alone reports more than 35,000 orders for the Epiq.
One important note regarding the VW electric car is that the long waiting times apply to individually configured ID. Polo models. However, dealers are said to have contingents of pre-configured vehicles in stock that will be available more quickly with the official sales launch.
A brief overview of the model range shows the most affordable ID. Polo Trend features a small 37 kWh LFP battery and an 85 kW electric motor, offering a WLTP range of 323 kilometres. The DC fast-charging capacity is 88 kW, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in 23 minutes. VW now also offers the small battery in the two higher trim levels, ‘Life’ and ‘ Style ‘, though these can alternatively be equipped with a larger 52 kWh NMC battery. Higher power outputs are available at 99 kW or 155 kW. Pre-sales for the ID. Polo GTI, with 166 kW, will also begin in autumn (at a price just under €39,000). Here is the corresponding overview:
