The VW ID. Polo is sold out for months to come.
According to a media report, a waiting list has already formed for the VW ID. Polo even before it goes on sale—specifically for customized configurations. The wait time is at least ten months, according to a major VW dealership group. VW has now received over 30,000 orders across Europe in total.
VW opened orders for the new electric vehicle at its world premiere of the ID. Polo in April. Initially, the price started at 33,795 euros for the mid-tier “Life” configuration. But recently, the cheapest version, the ID. Polo Trend, is now available for customization starting at 24,995 euros. In other words, the long-promised VW electric car under 25,000 euros is here.
In our latest podcast, eMobility Insights, automotive expert Stefan Moeller told us recently that the waiting time for the ID. Polo is currently around twelve months. Automobilwoche also reports that this small B-segment electric car has immediately attracted significant interest. The industry magazine quotes the head of a major VW dealership group as saying, “For the ID. Polo, the entire series is sold out. The waiting time is at least ten months.” VW itself confirmed upon request from Automobilwoche that the combination of “very strong customer demand” and long-term planned production capacity at the Martorell plant is currently causing longer delivery times. The exact delivery dates are said to vary depending on the individual configuration.
VW confirms a total of “over 30,000 orders across Europe.” This means the ID. Polo has far exceeded “initial expectations, especially in Germany,” according to a company spokesperson cited in the report. Demand for the sibling models in Skoda’s and Cupra’s electric city car lineup is also expected to be significantly higher than anticipated. For the Skoda Epiq alone, the brand states there are over 35,000 orders received.
An important point regarding VW’s electric vehicle: the long wait times apply to individually customized ID. Polos. However, dealers have stock of pre-configured vehicles that will be available more quickly once official sales begin, the report says.
A brief overview of the series itself. The cheapest ID. Polo Trend comes equipped with a small 37 kWh LFP battery and an 85 kW electric motor, delivering a WLTP range of 323 kilometers. The DC fast charging capacity is 88 kW, allowing the battery to go from 10% to 80% in 23 minutes. VW now offers this small battery in the two higher trim levels, “Life” and “Style,” though those trims also come with an optional larger 52 kWh NMC battery. The more powerful motor options have outputs of 99 or 155 kW. Pre-sales for the ID. Polo GTI, featuring a 166 kW motor, will begin in the fall at a price just under 39,000 euros.
