VW ID. Buzz Cargo with long wheelbase: space for a European pallet

VW ID. Buzz Cargo with long wheelbase: space for a European pallet

Volkswagen now offers the ID. Buzz Cargo with a 250 mm longer wheelbase, an 86-kWh battery, and a cargo volume of 4.4 m³. Two sliding doors are standard, and the wider door allows a European pallet to fit inside — prices start at 48,490 euros net.

Volkswagen Nutzfahrzeuge is expanding the ID. Buzz delivery version with a long-wheelbase (LWB) variant. The wheelbase increases by 250 mm, raising the cargo volume by 0.5 m³ to a total of 4.4 m³. Pre-sales for the all-wheel-drive version with 250 kW of power began on September 23, 2026, at a price of 50,630 euros net. The rear-wheel-drive variant will follow a week later, priced at 48,490 euros net. For private buyers or customers not eligible for input tax credits, this amount includes 19% VAT, bringing the total to approximately 57,700 euros or 60,250 euros respectively, plus transfer and registration costs.

According to Volkswagen, the extra cost compared to the standard-wheelbase ID. Buzz Cargo is around 2,340 euros net. Part of this cost is offset by the standard equipment: the longer version comes equipped out of the factory with a second sliding door and a wooden floor in the cargo area.

Cargo Area and Payload

The additional length benefits the cargo area entirely. The loading surface is now 2,458 mm long, with 1,230 mm of width available between the wheel arches. For commercial use, the sliding door is particularly important: it is 19 cm wider on the LWB version, allowing a European pallet to be loaded sideways. This was not possible with the short-wheelbase ID. Buzz Cargo.

The maximum payload depends on the drive type. With rear-wheel drive, up to 700 kg is possible, while the all-wheel-drive version can carry 606 kg. As a result, the ID. Buzz Cargo LWB remains in the category of compact vans rather than reaching the level of larger trucks. A large rear hatch is standard at the back, with sliding doors available as an option. The driver’s cabin can be configured as a two-seater or three-seater as usual, and newly included is a manually adjustable lumbar support.

Drive and Battery

The long version of the Cargo comes equipped with a larger battery of 86 kWh, while the standard-wheelbase version must settle for 79 kWh. In the rear-wheel-drive variant, the electric motor delivers a system power output of 210 kW (286 hp). With the all-wheel-drive 4MOTION system, an additional motor is added to the front axle, raising the system power output to 250 kW (340 hp).

Regardless of the drive type, the long ID. Buzz Cargo can tow up to 1,800 kg (when braked, on slopes of 8% or 12%). Volkswagen does not provide details on range or maximum charging speeds at AC and DC chargers in the current announcement. However, for fleet operators, WLTP figures and charging times related to the larger battery would be important factors in making a decision.

Vehicle-to-Load capability of up to 3.6 kW

The new software generation introduces Vehicle-to-Load to the ID. Buzz. This feature allows electrical devices to be powered directly from the high-voltage battery, such as tools like circular saws on construction sites. For this purpose, an adapter called PowerSocket is inserted into the Type-2 charging port (Mode 3). A continuous power supply of 3.0 kW is available, with temporary peaks up to 3.6 kW possible. The adapter is offered in two versions: one with a Schuko plug and another in a CEE-230-V format, which is commonly used in campsites. The same power level can also be used to charge other electric vehicles.

Software, Assistance Systems, and Operation

The ID. Buzz Cargo LWB is produced with the current software version, which is also applicable to the other ID. Buzz models from Hannover. The optional Travel Assist now recognizes traffic lights for the first time and automatically brakes the vehicle to a stop at a red light within the system’s capabilities. Additionally, One-Pedal-Driving is new: the van decelerates and regenerates power solely using the drive pedal until it comes to a stop.

Volkswagen relies on the new “Innovision” system with an integrated app store for infotainment. Through this, vehicle-specific functions and services can be enabled, while apps in areas such as audio, video streaming, parking, charging, and gaming are available for download. In response to criticism of earlier models, the manufacturer has redesigned the multifunctional steering wheel with new pressure-sensitive buttons that allow control of key vehicle and infotainment functions.

The ID. Buzz Cargo LWB is manufactured, like the other variants, at the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles plant in Hannover.
