The Volvo EX30 gets Vehicle-to-Load functionality (V2L) through a software update.

The Volvo EX30 becomes a mobile energy storage unit: With the latest wireless software update, this compact electric premium SUV gains a Vehicle-to-Load function (V2L). This allows external devices such as e-bikes and tools to be powered. Additionally, charging the EX30 will become more convenient starting with the 2026 model year thanks to “Plug & Charge.”
Using the Plug & Charge function, which will first be introduced in selected European markets, EX30 drivers only need to connect to a compatible charging station. The charging process then starts automatically, without the need for additional authentication via an app or charging card. Billing is handled automatically using the stored data.
The V2L function will be made available gradually to new and existing EX30 customers through a free over-the-air update (OTA). Once the appropriate adapter is connected to the vehicle’s charging port, Volvo states that “almost any electrical device” can be connected. A power output of up to 3 kW at 16 amps provides sufficient electricity for various electrical devices when no outlet is nearby. The vehicle’s battery supplies the necessary energy, and power supply is automatically cut off if its charge drops below 20 percent.
"Thanks to the capabilities of over-the-air software updates, we can continue to improve our vehicles even after delivery — with numerous new features that customers might not have expected when purchasing them," says Alwin Bakkenes, head of global software engineering at Volvo Cars. The latest software update is complemented by an improved user experience: an adjustable sidebar on the central touchscreen of the infotainment system and a redesigned settings menu are designed to make accessing key functions easier."
