Volvo introduces new safety warnings for EX60, EX90, and ES90

Volvo is introducing four new “Connected Safety” features via software updates for its electric vehicles EX60, EX90, and ES90. These features are designed to alert drivers early of potential hazards ahead. Since 2016, Volvo vehicles have been sending warning messages to other vehicles based on real-time data, such as about slippery roads or nearby vehicles with their hazard lights on.

The new features include warnings about large animals on or beside the road ahead, pedestrians and cyclists on or near highways, as well as construction sites. There is also an accident warning for accidents further ahead. This is achieved using real-time data from connected Volvo vehicles or traffic control centers.

The new warning functions are designed to provide clear and timely alerts, especially in conditions of poor visibility, such as around confusing curves, hills, or under adverse weather. According to the Swedes, over a million Volvo vehicles already have active connected safety systems in use. Through the European ecosystem “Data for Road Safety,” warning messages can also be sent to vehicles of other brands and national traffic control centers.

“These innovations are based on decades of practical experience and represent another step toward our vision of zero accidents,” says Åsa Haglund, head of the Volvo Cars Safety Centre. “Every time a Volvo shares safety information, it helps other drivers prepare earlier for hazards, preventing accidents and enhancing their sense of security.”

With the same software update, Volvo introduces Spatial Audio in Apple CarPlay for the EX90 and ES90, featuring Dolby Atmos technology. Combined with the optional Bowers-&-Wilkins sound system with 25 high-performance speakers, this spatial audio feature is designed to deliver a multidimensional and immersive sound experience inside the cabin.
