Volkswagen ID.3 Neo GTI: 326 horsepower for the most powerful GTI in history

Starting with the ID.Polo, Volkswagen is moving forward with its electric transformation of the GTI name. The ID.3 Neo thus drops the GTX designation and gains several new features.

In its effort to completely overhaul everything with the launch of its ID series, Volkswagen went all the way. The GTI name was deemed too associated with traditional internal combustion engines, so it was not used for electric models, which instead adopted the GTX designation. This new name is also associated with a style often considered too conservative.

A change that seems like no change

As it seeks to redefine its identity, Volkswagen is now taking the opposite path. While small sports cars are making a comeback thanks to electric power, the German brand isn’t staying on the sidelines. Following the ID.Polo GTI is the ID.3 Neo GTI. This represents a change in name and philosophy that carries significance. However, no technical changes are expected compared to the GTX version.

While claiming the title of the most powerful GTI ever produced by Volkswagen, the ID.3 Neo GTI simply adopts the 240 kW (326 hp) engine and 79 kWh battery from its predecessor. The range remains unchanged at 601 kilometers, as does the 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of 5.6 seconds. The main change is the elimination of the 210 kW version in favor of the highest-performance engine option.

Besides the improvements brought by the ID.3 Neo, the GTI features numerous elements tied to its name: a red strip between the headlights, “Wörthersee” wheels (named after the annual GTI gathering), interior trim inspired by the legendary tartan… On top of that, the color used in the presentation is Rouge Tornado, the same shade seen on the original Golf GTI. All these elements give this sedan a more distinctive look, yet without excess, as befits a Volkswagen GTI.

The small GTI logo on the steering wheel is more than just a simple logo. This button activates the GTI driving mode, in addition to the standard Sport mode. The engine, steering, and suspension are optimized for this mode. It is further enhanced by red ambient lighting, a dedicated dashboard display, or the sound of a combustion engine. Finally, Launch Control is only available in this GTI mode.
