In recent days, there have been several “leaks” showing the appearance of the successors to the VW ID.4 and VW ID.5, namely the disguised VW ID. Tiguana. The vehicle looks somewhat different, stylistically resembling the VW ID. Polo, and is also meant to echo its gasoline-powered counterpart. It is built on a modernized MEB platform, namely MEB+, in rear-wheel or all-wheel drive versions. The official launch is scheduled for October 9, 2026, when the prices for the VW ID. Tiguana will also be revealed.

Volkswagen ID. Tiguan: Everything We Know

Let’s start with the appearance, as it’s the most interesting aspect here. It should be noted that journalists from some media outlets had the chance to see an unmasked pre-production version, but they are still under an embargo. As such, they go to great lengths to leak the information they have without explicitly breaking the ban. Recent “leaks,” including the Autogefuehl video, suggest that Volkswagen turns a blind eye to such actions:

The new VW ID. Tiguan is much more angular than the outgoing VW ID.4. The daytime running lights have become flatter, with the actual headlights likely installed beneath them and connected by a light strip. The pattern of the rear lights is an obvious reference to the VW ID. Polo, resembling those on the Audi TT, and it clearly deviates from the styling used in the gasoline-powered Tiguan. It’s hard to say if this will become a new signature for electric models, as the VW ID.3 Neo doesn’t have one. Definitely, such lights appear “cheaper” than those on the gasoline-powered predecessor:

On the body, we can see that Volkswagen has abandoned the problematic hinges in the panel structure and adopted a traditional solution. We also know that based on the MEB+ RWD platform, rear-wheel drive will be the standard, with all-wheel drive versions also available. The smaller batteries will use LFP cells, while the largest one will be built using Li-NCM cells and is likely to have a capacity of 84 (79) kWh. If the wheelbase of the VW ID. Tiguan remains around 2.77 meters (for comparison: Skoda Peaq = 2.97 m), then larger batteries might be introduced in 2-3 years during a facelift.

The Volkswagen ID. Tiguan will go on sale in the final quarter of the year. This might be the last chance to buy a Volkswagen ID.4 at a good price.
