Volkswagen ID. Tiguan: the brand reveals the name of the successor to the ID.4, which will be unveiled in a few days
What was previously a well-known secret is now an official reality: the successor to the Volkswagen ID.4 will be called the ID. Tiguan. This model, which will be unveiled in early October, is also set to replace the ID.5. Given that the ID.4/ID.5 models have been the best-selling electric vehicles from this German brand globally for years, expectations are very high.
Between 2021 and 2026, the company delivered over 950,000 units of both models, which fall between the C (compact) and D (mid-size) segments. On another note, it’s important to remember that the Tiguan with a internal combustion engine has been Volkswagen’s best-selling car worldwide for years—over one million units of the Tiguan/Tayron were sold in 2025.
The ID. Tiguan, which will go on sale in early 2027, will be Volkswagen’s third electric vehicle after the ID. Polo and ID. Cross to adopt a classic commercial name, a strategy aimed at reconnecting with customers and conveying a sense of familiarity. Given the initial success of the ID. Polo, everything suggests this decision has been a success.

The ID. Tiguan will be a major restyle of the ID.4, not a completely new model. It will adopt Volkswagen’s new Pure Positive design language: despite the camouflage still covering its body, numerous similarities to the ID. Cross can be seen in the images shared by Volkswagen. First and foremost, the lighting units will be divided into two sections by an LED bar running across the front from side to side.
The upper section of the headlights will incorporate the daytime running lights and turn signals, while the lower part will handle the main lighting functions. There will also be some changes to the side profile, particularly on the third window and the C pillar. The rear end will feature a black horizontal strip that encloses the taillights, which will consist of two rectangular modules. The bumpers will change as well.
