Volkswagen officially unveiled the VW ID. Cross (source), the latest model in this year’s lineup based on the MEB+ platform. Initially, it is available in Life and Style trims, both equipped only with a larger battery of 55 (52) kWh and a front-wheel-drive engine producing 155 kW/211 hp. The price of the VW ID. Cross in the cheapest version shown in the configurator is 36,525 euros, equivalent to 163,400 zlotys, but it is expected to be more expensive in Poland. As usual.

The above pricing calculations for the ID. Cross include Polish VAT, but experience has taught us that directly translating amounts is a sign of misplaced optimism. We can expect someone from the Polish branch to step forward and proudly claim they were involved in creating the Polish price list, so the base version in the launch edition will start at 171,290 Polish zlotys, while the most fully equipped version is priced at a tempting 184,190 Polish zlotys. In higher trims, a light gray interior is standard. Choosing black upholstery does not change the price.

Smaller battery

Since we’ve complained a bit, here’s some better news: the VW ID. Cross Trend ~39 (37) kWh is set to go on sale in mid-October, with a starting price of 27,995 euros, which is equivalent to 125,200 zlotys. The car will already come standard with the keyless engine start system (Keyless Go), meaning a Start/Stop Engine button. In addition, it will feature a 12.9-inch central display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as LED headlights. It also includes a 475-liter trunk capacity and 25 liters under the front hood.

Range and equipment

The Volkswagen ID. Cross Life, powered by the APP290 engine delivering 155 kW/211 hp and equipped with a larger Li-NCx 55 (52) kWh battery, offers 427 WLTP range units—365 kilometers in urban or urban-suburban driving conditions, 256 kilometers at 120 km/h with the battery fully depleted [preliminary calculations by Elektrowozu]. The manufacturer claims that charging from 10 to 80 percent takes 23 minutes (other sources cite 24 minutes). Among the useful features are a two-zone climate control system, a rearview camera, an inductive phone charger, and an adaptive cruise control with radar that maintains a set distance from vehicles ahead.

The Style variant includes additional features such as IQ. Light matrix adaptive headlights, ambient lighting, and a illuminated Volkswagen logo on the steering wheel, as well as a heated steering wheel, play/pause pedals, app-based car unlocking capability, and sporty front seats. It is only in this edition that true keyless access is included, allowing the door locks to be unlocked by gripping the handle when the keys are in our pocket. This function should not be confused with Keyless Go, which simply means there is no key fob.

The upgraded VW ID. Cross Style. While the 20-inch wheels are attractive, they will reduce our range by a few percent.

Additional paid options

If we dream of autopilot, heated seats, or front massage functions, we should prepare our wallets for extra expenses. Even a paint color other than light gray requires an additional cost – and of course, the most expensive option is the fastest color, red. Additionally, on the model page we’ll find the largest wheels, an Innovision Pro navigation system with route planning including charging stops, a Harman Kardon 8+1 audio system, and an additional adapter that allows sharing power from the charging port (V2L).

We quickly reach 44,295 euros, prompting us to hold our heads in theatrical despair:

The Volkswagen ID. Cross currently on display is the most powerful version that isn’t GTI. In the future, variants with the same engine will also appear, limited to 85 kW/116 hp and 99 kW/135 hp while maintaining a torque of 290 Nm. The lower-powered editions will come with LFP batteries, while the 155 kW version will remain paired with Li-NCx. All cars on the MEB+ platform have front-wheel drive, all also feature rear disc brakes, one-pedal driving, and four window-opening buttons — just an option to distinguish them from the standard MEB version.
