The Volkswagen ID. Buzz has received an off-road package. It looks good, but it won’t perform miracles in rough terrain.

The Volkswagen ID. Buzz has received a modification package from the German company Seikel, which specializes in off-road parts for Volkswagen and Ford vehicles. The package increases the ground clearance by 30 mm, adds off-road tires and aluminum underbody guards, but does not alter the electronics responsible for traction.
The ID. Buzz originally looked like a vehicle designed for camping, fishing trips, and weekend getaways outside the city. The problem is that the standard version is more suitable for a gravel road to a campsite than something that can truly be called a light off-roader. Seikel decided to improve this somewhat.
What’s included in the package
The package is quite simple and practical. It includes new KW shock absorbers, Eibach springs, a set of BF Goodrich Trail Terrain T/A tires, and more rugged 20-inch wheels. Additionally, there are two aluminum protective plates installed under the front and rear axles.
These guards are 5 mm thick and replace the original plastic components. They protect the front and rear drive units as well as the front cooling module. If someone really drives off the asphalt, this is the part that makes the most sense. Plastic in an electric vehicle mounted low over rocks usually ends up failing quickly.
Higher ground clearance, but unchanged drive system
The modified suspension and wheels increase the vehicle’s ground clearance by the mentioned 30 mm. This isn’t a value that will suddenly turn the ID. Buzz electric Land Cruiser into something extraordinary, but it can provide some peace of mind on forest roads or in deep potholes.
This is where we come to the most important “but.” Seikel does not modify the traction control system. The ID. Buzz does have an AWD drive with two engines, but it lacks a dedicated off-road mode that would perform better on loose surfaces or when one wheel is lifted off the ground. In a promotional video from the kit’s manufacturer, it can be seen that the vehicle sometimes loses traction precisely when one wheel is in the air.
In short: mechanically it’s improved, but electronically it remains standard. And in a modern EV, the electronics often do half of the work.
How much does it cost?
Seikel has not provided a single price for the entire package. It is only known that the aluminum guards alone cost 1,390 euros before taxes.
It’s not cheap. On the other hand, such modifications are almost never inexpensive, especially when we’re not talking about universal accessories from a catalog but rather parts designed for a specific model.
More camper than off-roader
The most honest description for this package would be “adventure look plus a bit of practicality.” The ID. Buzz looks better after these changes, has more protection from below, and slightly better off-road safety. That’s already something.
If someone plans to use it for more rugged camping trips or drive on roads where the asphalt ends quickly, then this kit makes sense. If someone expects true off-roading performance, there’s no hiding it—the lack of dedicated traction control will be a bigger limitation than the ground clearance itself.
The ID. Buzz after such a treatment looks like a camper that can indeed be driven to a forest parking lot without stress. The question is whether spending several thousand euros for such an effect makes sense, since the car’s biggest problem lies in its software anyway. Would you pay for such a package, or would chassis guards and better tires be sufficient for you?
