VinFast unveils VF Wild pickup truck as its first EREV

VinFast has unveiled the production version of the VF Wild pickup truck concept introduced in 2024 and plans to launch it first in Vietnam. While the concept version showcased an electric pickup truck, the final model is the company's first extended-range electric vehicle (EREV).

The VF Wild is 5,376 mm long, 2,069 mm wide, and 1,873 mm tall, and has a 3,258-mm wheelbase. The exterior dimensions make it comparable to Ford’s Ranger, available only in ICE and plug-in hybrid variants. The Vietnamese mid-size pickup truck’s load box measures 1,574 mm in length, 1,512 mm in width, and 509 mm in height.

VinFast equips the VF Wild with an electric motor producing 160 kW and 280 Nm of torque and a 46.4 kWh LFP battery pack. The mid-size pickup truck also has a petrol engine, which is not connected to the wheels and only serves as a generator, charging the battery pack on the go. The company has not disclosed the engine’s displacement or type, or the fuel tank capacity. It hasn’t shared any plans to offer an AWD variant either.

The VF Wild offers a maximum payload capacity of 750 kg in the only available single-motor 2WD configuration. Its battery pack supports charging at up to 6.6 kW on AC power and up to 90 kW on DC power. Charging from 10 per cent to 70 per cent SoC via a DC charger takes 32 minutes. Under the NEDC test cycle, the extended-range electric pickup truck can deliver an electric range of over 250 kilometres and a combined range exceeding 1,000 km.

The VF Wild supports vehicle-to-load (V2L) bidirectional charging, allowing customers to turn it into a mobile power source for emergency, work, and recreational purposes. It also features 18-inch steel wheels, rear bed-side steps, a flat floor, a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and reclining rear seats. Like most other VinFast models, the VF Wild lacks an instrument cluster, something that seems even odder in a utility vehicle. The company does not mention the availability of a head-up display, and the interior images do not appear to show one either.

VinFast has set the price of the VF Wild at 860 million dong (~€28,800 euros) in black, red, and white colours and 872 million dong (~€29,200 euros) in silver. The company plans to open pre-orders for the VF Wild in Vietnam on 25 September and continue accepting them until 30 September. It will offer customers who reserve their VF Wild during this period a discount of 61 million dong (~€2,000 euros). The company has yet to announce any export plans for its first EREV.
