VfB Stuttgart unveils DC charger and ten additional AC chargers

Electric vehicles can now charge at up to 250 kW at the VfB Stuttgart club facility: Stadtwerke Stuttgart has installed a battery-powered fast charger from ADS-TEC Energy at the public parking lot P3 on Mercedesstraße. In addition, ten regular chargers are available on the site.

Stuttgart’s city utilities have now officially unveiled the DC charging station in partnership with VfB Stuttgart. The battery technology from charging specialist ADS-TEC Energy based in Nürtingen, along with appropriate software solutions from Vector Informatik in Stuttgart, enables the operation of this fast-charging infrastructure using the existing low-voltage network. This eliminates the need for a complex connection to the medium-voltage grid, according to the project initiators.

The device itself is ChargePost, a product from ADS-TEC Energy’s lineup. The charging station features two fast-charging ports and is connected to a battery storage system with a capacity of 201 kWh. This battery provides the high power levels required for charging that cannot be delivered solely by the grid connection. As a result, a 63 kW connection capacity is sufficient to achieve up to 250 kW of charging power.

In addition to the new public DC charging option, VfB employees, visitors to the club’s premises or nearby event and cultural institutions have access to another ten AC charging stations with 11 kW each on public parking lot P3 — bringing the total number of AC units at this location to 22. All charging stations share a common design feature: the VfB emblem with a red border.

The operation of these charging stations is managed by the city utilities company. Authentication and payment can be done on the spot using QR codes, via the city utilities charging app or card, or through roaming services provided by third-party electricity providers. The free usage period is four hours before a blocking fee applies.

For Stadtwerke Stuttgart and ADS-TEC Energy, ChargePost in front of the club center is not their first joint project. In October 2025, Stadtwerke already opened a fast-charging park at Zuffenhausen Station featuring four ChargePost systems and eight charging stations. There too, the systems operate using the low-voltage network.

"Seeing a ChargePost with the VfB emblem in front of the club headquarters makes us proud and especially happy as a company from the region," says Thomas Speidel, CEO of ADS-TEC Energy, at the opening of the new fast-charging station. Technically, the location is a model example: "The parking lot has a standard low-voltage power connection, which would never have been sufficient for 250 kilowatts. Our storage technology compensates for this and boosts the available energy to high performance levels. This way, we didn’t have to tear up half of the parking lot for thick cables, nor waste valuable space on transformers and control stations."
