US order books open for 2027 Mercedes-Benz G 580 Electric

Mercedes-Benz is now accepting orders for the 2027 G 580 Electric in the US, with the luxury off-roader receiving a revised charging setup, improved efficiency, and slightly more range. Prices start at $165,200, up from $164,550 during the previous model year.

This model year, the biggest changes are to do with the charging hardware. _Inside EVs_ reports that Mercedes has replaced the previous CCS1 inlet with two separate connectors: a NACS port for DC fast charging and a J1772 port for Level 2 AC charging. That means the 2027 G 580 can therefore connect directly to NACS DC fast chargers, including Tesla Superchargers, with CCS1 DC charging remaining possible using an adapter. Prices start at $163,750 before the $1,450 ‘destination charge’, or $165,200 including it. For comparison, the 2026 model year came in at $164,550 with the destination charge.

DC charging itself has also been improved slightly. According to Mercedes, the 2027 G 580 can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in 29 minutes – down from 32 minutes previously. Peak charging power remains at 200 kW, while the onboard AC charger supports up to 9.6 kW. Efficiency and range have also seen a notable improvement: the G 580 is now rated at 71 MPGe by the EPA, up from 62 MPGe for the previous model. Its EPA-rated combined range has consequently increased from 239 to 249 miles (385 to 401 km).

Elsewhere, things have remained the same. The underlying powertrain remains unchanged; the G 580 uses four permanently excited synchronous electric motors, one at each wheel, producing a combined 432 kW and 1,164 Nm of torque. Each drive unit incorporates a two-speed gearbox, allowing the electric G-Class to retain a selectable low-range mode for off-road driving. It also retains the conventional G-Class’ ladder-frame construction, with its 116-kWh battery integrated into the chassis. This contributes to a curb weight of more than three tonnes, while the boxy body and off-road hardware limit efficiency and range compared with other eSUVs.

For the 2027 model year, the G 580 retains its 4.6-second 0-60 mph acceleration time and 112 mph (180 km/h) electronically limited top speed. The four-motor system also continues to provide individual torque control at each wheel, enabling functions such as G-TURN and G-STEERING.

Last year, electrive reported that Mercedes had sold around 1450 G 580s worldwide by the end of April 2025, compared with roughly 9,700 combustion-engined G-Class models over the same period. Mercedes has since sought to stimulate demand for the electric G-Class in Germany, doubling its customer discount from five to ten per cent in November 2025. The company did not apply this discount to models of the combustion-engined G-Class.
