Just one year after its official launch in the European market, the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross EV receives its first major update. This 100% electric SUV from the Japanese brand, developed using a shared platform with the Renault Scénic E-Tech, is seeing its strategy adjusted to make it more affordable within the competitive zero-emission crossover C-segment.
This change is aimed at adapting the technical offerings to a market that demands lower entry prices without compromising on interior space or performance suitable for modern family needs. With this restructuring, the range simplifies its pricing options and lowers the price barrier associated with the version launched in 2025.
Shared architecture and LFP battery change
The Eclipse Cross EV was designed on the modular CMF-EV platform, the same base used for Renault’s equivalent model. This architecture features an optimized wheelbase that prioritizes interior space and allows battery packs to be placed flat on the vehicle floor.
The main innovation in this revision is the introduction of a new 67 kWh access battery using lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) chemistry. Adopting this technology offers a quite interesting strategic advantage, as although it has a slightly lower energy density compared to nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) chemistries, it is much cheaper to manufacture, does not use expensive critical materials, and provides superior durability in continuous charging cycles.
This entry variant offers a combined WLTP range of up to 472 kilometers, sufficient for daily commutes and intercity trips without hassle. In terms of DC charging times, the vehicle can go from 15% to 80% battery charge in about 24 minutes.
Beyond this entry-level version, the range will later be supplemented by a longer-range variant called Long Range. This configuration will feature an 89 kWh NMC battery pack, boosting the range to 650 kilometers under the European standard and requiring around 28 minutes for a corresponding fast charge.
Up to 12,700 euros less for greater competitiveness
The change in the mechanical specifications has a direct impact on pricing within the European market. When the model first launched in key countries like the Netherlands, the initial cost for the higher-capacity versions was 45,690 euros.
With the introduction of the new version featuring a 67 kWh LFP battery, pricing for Europe starts at 32,990 euros. This represents a reduction of up to 12,700 euros from the launch price of the previous year. In Spain, conditional final prices and purchase support programs allow for further adjustments to the final cost compared to its direct competitors.
The price adjustment allows this crossover from the three-diamond brand to compete directly in a market segment where the balance between cost, space, and range is crucial for buyers transitioning to electric mobility.
Changes inside and the brand’s strategy on the continent
Inside, the Eclipse Cross EV retains the layout inherited from its modular platform. With a length of 4.47 meters, its space arrangement makes use of a completely flat floor to provide ample room in the rear seats and a trunk capacity of 545 liters, which can be increased by folding down the rear seats.
The technology section relies on a digital interface featuring 12.3-inch screens and native integration of Google’s service ecosystem, enabling route planning that takes into account available charging stations along the way as well as remote software updates for the vehicle.
This refresh underscores Mitsubishi’s commitment to the European market through industrial synergies within the Alliance. Production of this model continues at the Douai factory, where its Renault counterpart is also manufactured, ensuring a agile and optimized supply chain to supply dealers across the continent in the final stretch of the year.
