Survey: 79 percent of electric car owners have already traveled by electric vehicle

According to a representative survey published by fleet management company Alphabet, 79 percent of electric vehicle owners have already taken a trip with their car at least once. Almost all (94%) can imagine driving their electric vehicle on vacation. The vast majority (65%) can also envision a longer trip across national borders.

In July, a total of 1,270 car owners were surveyed for Alphabet, including 248 owners of electric vehicles. Among the respondents without electric cars, only about half (51%) would use a battery-powered vehicle for their vacation trips, compared to 57% in the same survey in 2024. Of the 1,022 car owners surveyed who did not own electric cars, 16% had taken a vacation trip in an electric vehicle themselves.

Among those under 30, nearly three-quarters (73%) can imagine driving an electric car on vacation. Among those aged 60 and above, the figure is 43%. “For young people, making the switch is almost natural. Our direct customer interactions also show this: Gen Z wants an electric company car much more often because they appreciate the driving experience and lower CO2 emissions,” said Uwe Hildinger, CEO and chairman of Alphabet Deutschland, to Autobild.

According to a survey from 2024, only 30% of all electric car owners had traveled a distance of 500 to 1,000 kilometers on electric power at that time, while now that figure is 39%. Currently, only 16% would drive an electric car for long distances over 1,000 kilometers, up from slightly more than 17% two years ago.

"Electromobility has long become part of everyday life for many people. Range no longer plays a significant role in this context. This is also due to the substantial technological advancements that new models have made over the past few years," said Hildinger.
