Ultraviolette updates the X-47: more battery and faster charging for the Venom

The electric crossover X-47 adopts a 100-volt platform, equipped with a new 30 kW motor and batteries up to 11 kWh. The most interesting feature for travelers is its continuous charging capability of up to 12 kW.

The Ultraviolette X-47 undergoes changes under the hood and becomes the Venom. Introduced in India, this updated crossover features a new electric architecture, larger batteries, and a revised motor. It also comes with fast DC charging at up to 12 kW, one of the most anticipated upgrades for a bike designed to accompany its owner beyond city limits.

The Indian brand, whose sportsbike F77 we have previously covered, retains the X-47’s design philosophy: an upright riding position, a canopy, and a two-level saddle. The focus is on the 100-volt VX-100 platform, which is also set to equip other models from the company.

Larger Batteries, Up to 11 kWh

The base battery capacity increases from 7.1 to 7.5 kWh, while those in the Recon versions rise from 10.3 to 11 kWh. The claimed range for the Venom models is 227 km and 343 km respectively. These figures come from the Indian IDC cycle tests, which are known to be generous but still interesting.

The increased capacity is accompanied by improvements to the cooling system and battery pack design. Ultraviolette claims higher energy density and reduced battery weight. Among the protective measures is a fuseswitch that cuts off the circuit when a critical fault is detected, complementing the electronic management system and cell fuses.

New Engine and Longer Performance Duration

The Lightfury engine delivers a peak power of 30 kW, approximately 41 HP, with a top speed of 155 km/h, 2.7 seconds to reach 60 km/h, and 5.9 seconds for 0-100 km/h.

An interesting feature in usage is the ability to maintain the most sporty mode, Ballistic, even with 10% remaining battery charge. Regenerative braking is also available even when the battery is nearly full: these two changes should make the motorcycle’s performance more consistent throughout the ride.

Fast charging can extend range

The DC charging support of up to 12 kW is the most significant change for those who want to take more curves. A larger battery allows starting with more energy; regaining that energy during a stop enables continuing the ride without waiting hours.

At the moment, however, there is no complete overview of the charging times and curve. To assess its advantages, it will be necessary to know how long the Venom maintains its claimed power and what charging systems it can use in the European version. The range also distinguishes between “+” versions equipped with an onboard charger and those with a portable charger.

The radar remains, the screen gets bigger

The rear radar, already present on the previous X-47, is available on the Recon models. It detects vehicles in the blind spot, approaching vehicles, and risks during lane changes. The Venom also features a new 7-inch touchscreen; cruise control, navigation, and camera options vary depending on the trim level.

The expected date to see the bike in Europe is November 3 at EICMA.
