UK: Volkswagen gives ID. Buzz Cargo a 58 kWh battery and V2L

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has introduced a new 58 kWh battery for the ID. Buzz Cargo in the UK. The update increases WLTP range to 218 miles (351 km), raises power output to 140 kW and adds vehicle-to-load capability and new software features across the model range.

The new battery replaces the previous 59 kWh variant. Nevertheless, the update also increases the van’s WLTP range by 17 miles (27 km) to 218 miles (351 km) and raises the maximum output from 125 kW to 140 kW. According to the manufacturer, the improvements are the result of more efficient battery cells.

The new entry-level variant is priced from £29,995 excluding VAT, £5,655 less than the outgoing 59 kWh version. In the UK, all ID. Buzz Cargo 58 kWh models also qualify for the government’s Plug-in Van Grant, reducing the purchase price by a further £5,000.

Alongside the new battery option, Volkswagen has introduced vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability across the entire ID. Buzz Cargo range. The system provides a continuous power output of 2.0 kW, with a peak output of 3.6 kW (16 A at 240 V), enabling users to operate external electrical devices such as power tools, laptops or kettles. The three-pin socket is located in the rear load compartment and can be accessed from both the rear and side doors.

The update also introduces ID. Software 6.0 across the ID. Buzz Cargo range. It adds an integrated app store, allowing users to download and activate streaming, parking and charging services directly in the vehicle. Volkswagen has also expanded Connected Travel Assist, which uses additional online data to support driver assistance functions. The system can now detect traffic lights and automatically bring the vehicle to a stop when it identifies a red signal.
