After launching a compact car and an SUV in Spain, GWM presents a luxury hybrid SUV with 696 horsepower and a price of 39,000 euros.

The new Wey Lanshan, the SUV with which Great Wall Motor’s (GWM) premium brand aims to elevate its presence in China, bears a strong resemblance to the Haval H10, which the group began selling in August. Both share the same platform, a boxy body style, and much of their technology, though the Wey comes equipped with a more powerful engine, larger battery, a more sophisticated chassis, and plenty of chrome accents.

This approach mirrors Toyota’s strategy, which sells the same SUV as the Land Cruiser and in a more luxurious version as the Lexus GX. GWM is playing it safe, given that the H10 saw 19,281 units delivered in China between August and September. For the Lanshan, it represents a radical change as well: the first generation was a family SUV with rounded lines, sold in some export markets as the Wey 07. The new model will arrive at Chinese dealerships before the end of the year.

A boxy SUV with more chrome

It retains the high hood, flat roof, and rear hatch with the spare tire hanging from the H10, but features a large chrome vertical grille, round headlights within a square frame, and 21-inch tires. Its dimensions place it in the E segment, the category for larger SUVs. The five-seater version measures 5,140 millimeters in length, 2,050 millimeters in width, and 1,960 millimeters in height, while the six-seater version extends to 5,300 millimeters with the same wheelbase of 3,010 millimeters. In the six-seater model, the second row replaces the bench seat with two seats separated by a central aisle.

More engine power and battery capacity than the Haval H10

GWM Haval H10

The H10 is equipped with a 1.5 turbo engine, while the Lanshan features a 2.0 turbo gasoline engine designed for plug-in hybrid systems, producing 247 horsepower. It is paired with a four-speed DHT transmission and two electric motors, one per axle, delivering 150 and 299 horsepower respectively. GWM calls this all-wheel drive system Hi4, and theoretically, its combined power reaches 696 horsepower, nearly 100 more than the H10.

The electrical architecture is 800 volts and supports a 6C charge rate. According to data registered with China’s Ministry of Industry, there will be two batteries: the 53.6 kWh battery provides 220 kilometers of electric range per CLTC cycle, while the 64.7 kWh battery offers up to 270 kilometers. This is far more than the 42.8 kWh of the H10, although achieving this required significantly increasing the battery size and thus the vehicle’s overall weight.

A chassis for city and rural use

The upgrade in class is most evident in the chassis, featuring a dual-chamber air suspension, continuously variable damping control, and steering rear wheels that can rotate up to 20 degrees. Thanks to these, the turning radius remains at 5.3 meters and drops to 5.15 meters in the most agile mode, sufficient for making a U-turn on a two-lane road. For off-road use, it comes with a rear differential lock and seven driving modes, including snow, mud, and sand. However, it has a monocoque body rather than a frame with rails and crossmembers, so its natural environment is racing tracks rather than the toughest off-road terrains.

Price and Arrival in Spain

GWM has not announced a price, but it is expected to fall in the range of 300,000 yuan, approximately 39,000 euros, the same as the current Lanshan, which costs between 38,970 and 42,480 euros. This would put it about 13,000 euros above the Haval H10, which starts at 26,230 euros. In our country, GWM began selling cars this summer, first with the GWM Ora 5, and soon after with the Haval H7. The Wey brand will enter the market in 2027 with the Wey G9, a seven-seater plug-in hybrid minivan with 458 horsepower. For now, we do not know whether the Haval H10 or its luxury version will be part of the domestic lineup.
