When considering the best-selling electric cars in China, they are not the urban and compact SUVs seen in Europe or Spain. Instead, in China, the models with the highest sales volumes are the cheaper urban electric cars with modest performance, such as the Wuling Hongguang Mini, which has only about 40 horsepower and costs 5,900 euros.
Within this segment is also Changan’s Lumin microcity car, a brand that has gained prominence in Spain. This 3-seater microcity car has sold over 550,000 units solely in China since its launch in 2022. Now, a larger 5-seater version is available, starting at just 48,900 yuan, or 6,500 euros.
5-seater version for Changan’s cheapest electric microcity car
As we mentioned, 4 years ago, Changan launched its affordable urban car, the Lumin, in China. It is a vehicle that is only 3.27 meters long, 1.7 meters wide, 1.54 meters tall, with a wheelbase of just 1.98 meters.
Naturally, this electric car with a range of up to 301 kilometers was introduced as a 3-door model. Its commercial success in China, with over 550,000 units sold since 2022, led the brand to make it one of its key export models last year in Spain, marketing it as one of the cheapest electric cars in Latin America, specifically in countries such as Chile, Colombia, and Uruguay.
But this electric vehicle has a problem. The units sold so far in 2026 have dropped by a whopping 69% already this year. Why? While the Chinese market still favors electric vehicles with low prices and urban use, there is a growing demand for more practical and versatile models.

That’s why this emerging brand in Spain has announced the launch of the Lumin Plus in November, featuring a 5-seater version with a range of up to 301 kilometers—though this drops to just 247 kilometers in Spain under the WLTP testing cycle. Its length increases by 24.5 cm, reaching 3.51 meters, with a wheelbase of 2.20 meters.

Could it arrive in Spain?
However, we shouldn’t expect high performance from Changan’s cheapest 5-seater electric car, as it’s available only with a 47 HP engine, which can be paired with two batteries—whose capacities the brand hasn’t specified for this model in Spain. That said, Changan has stated that this Lumin Plus offers ranges of 205 and 301 km—matching those of the Lumin 3-seater—suggesting it uses the same batteries: 17.65 and 28.08 kWh respectively.
Changan has already announced the arrival in Spain of a new product family with lower prices than its current Deepal SUVs: the Nevo series, which will reach Spain in 2027 with the Nevo Q05. However, it does not seem that, at least for now, it will introduce to Spain even a budget-friendly urban model like the Europa, one with such limited features. This is despite the fact that over 550,000 units of these models have already been sold solely in China...
