Thessaloniki receives 50 electric buses from Yutong

In the Greek city of Thessaloniki, 50 new electric buses have been put into service. The 18-meter-long articulated buses made by the Chinese manufacturer Yutong are operated by OASTH, Thessaloniki’s municipal transportation company, on four routes. OASTH now has around 160 electric buses in its fleet.

The new electric articulated buses from Yutong will primarily be used in the western part of Thessaloniki, specifically on routes X1, 12, 27, and 32. With the integration of this fleet into the winter schedule at the beginning of this month, OASTH also hired 170 additional drivers and announced plans to introduce new routes and increase service frequency. In total, OASTH now has around 160 electric buses in operation. A previous procurement round took place in 2024 – at that time as well, Thessaloniki and Athens relied on Yutong buses in their joint procurement effort.

The new electric articulated buses are known to accommodate up to 130 passengers and are equipped with air conditioning, ventilation systems, and tilting windows. Their range is said to be 300 kilometers. The officials have not disclosed the model name, but it is likely to be Yutong U18 units, which have a battery capacity of between 528 and 704 kWh depending on the chosen battery option.
