Tesla Summer Update 2026: Grok Learning to Be an Assistant. Next Step: “Grok, tell FSD to drive on the sidewalk!”

Tesla has released the Tesla Summer Update 2026, an software update featuring several new features. The new capabilities of Grok, Tesla’s artificial intelligence, are highlighted, but these remain minor additions. More interesting will be future functions, such as the ability to directly instruct FSD (Supervised) to make previously unplanned moves, like taking a shortcut known only to the driver. Or even breaking traffic laws by driving along the sidewalk and parking 100 meters further despite having a DMC over 2.5 tons.

New Features in Tesla Summer Update

Let’s start with the facts: the current update allows Grok to make phone calls, search for and play music, control the air conditioning, open the trunk, and the artificial intelligence has also learned to provide answers about the car. We’re curious whether it knows the battery capacity from certification or the vehicle’s VIN, in which it temporarily gains awareness.

Tesla’s automatic navigation (FSD (Supervised) required) will now remember frequently visited locations—not only those from the calendar or home and work addresses—to tailor routes accordingly. For example, it will learn that we take our child to classes on Wednesdays while we go to the pool. Users can set a battery level threshold for the destination. When planning routes—not just in FSD mode—the car will use paths we prefer, such as avoiding forcing the driver to take the fastest A4 route if they prefer the slower but safer DK94. This is useful to keep in mind should we decide one day that we actually want the fastest route.

Karaoke will assess our singing skills. In the future, the software might also calculate our intelligence or estimated lifespan based on our habits... (c) Tesla

The driver will have the option to lock the controls on the rear screen, allowing operation only from the front. Children won’t be able to turn off cartoons or activate the oven mode while playing with their feet. The car’s welcome screen displays an animation similar to traveling at light speed in Star Wars, and the browser will gain access to the microphone and camera, enabling use of web clients for group calls. The rest are gadgets and toys:

Editor’s note from Elektrowozu: We’re interested in the next phase we mentioned at the beginning. Once Grok gains the ability to influence FSD, there will be temptation to test its capacity to break the law.

Note 2: FSD (Supervised) is not yet available in Poland, so a significant portion of the features described simply won’t be available to us. It’s likely that once it becomes accessible, we’ll receive a fairly substantial set of additions.
