The Tesla Roadster is back in reservation. The second payment is due before the showcase on October 1st.
Tesla has reopened reservations for the new Roadster ahead of the launch event scheduled for October 1 in Waco, Texas. In Europe, an initial deposit of 4,000 euros is required, followed by another 39,000 euros within 10 days.
For Polish readers, there’s one factor that matters more than all the marketing: we practically know nothing yet, not even the final price of the car, and the second payment is due even before the official presentation.
43,000 euros down, but no complete offer yet
The Tesla European website already allows reservations for the Roadster, though not in Poland. The process is simple: we pay 4,000 euros immediately, and then must transfer another 39,000 euros within 10 days to keep the order active.
And now the most interesting part. According to an editorial note, only the first payment is refundable, not the second. This is a significant difference from the “reservation” narrative, as in practice it means joining a queue for 43,000 euros, which is approximately 184,000–185,000 zł at today’s exchange rate.
The problem is that Tesla still hasn’t disclosed the most important details. We don’t know the final price, specifications, or delivery date. All we know is that the public showcase is scheduled for October 1. In other words, customers have to send the second payment even before seeing the full specifications. I would wait until Tuesday to place an order, so that the second payment deadline falls after the official launch.
The Roadster has been based on promises since 2017
The Roadster was first unveiled in the fall of 2017. At that time, Tesla aimed for deliveries in 2020 and mentioned prices of $200,000 for the base version and $250,000 for the Founder’s Series. Nine years later, it’s hard to assume these figures will hold.
The project itself has also been significantly delayed. The Roadster was pushed aside by the Model Y and Cybertruck, and this year’s unveiling has been postponed multiple times. Initially, April 1st was mentioned, but it was eventually set for October 1st.
Add to this Elon Musk’s typical promises. There were claims of a 0-60 mph time of less than 2 seconds, or even under 1 second with the optional SpaceX package featuring compressed gas nozzles. Musk also joked that the car could “fly.” It sounds great. For now, it remains more of a legend than a finished product.
The new teaser also suggests that the production Roadster might look different from the 2017 red concept car. Instead of soft, supercar-like lines, it features a more angular rear end, a wide light bar, and an aesthetic closer to the Cybertruck family.
