Tesla plans salary increases of up to five percent in Grünheide

Tesla, the U.S.-based electric vehicle manufacturer, plans another adjustment to wages at its European plant in Grünheide, a municipality in Brandenburg near Berlin. According to a report by Die Zeit citing a statement from the U.S. company, salaries at the German “Gigafactory” are set to increase by an average of four to five percent starting October 1.

The wage increases apply to different groups of employees within the company. Production workers, who make up the majority of the workforce, are expected to see a five percent raise. Skilled workers will receive a four percent increase along with a performance-based bonus.

As of December 1, 2025, salaries at the Grünheide plant were increased by four percent. The current starting salary for employees in production is approximately 45,750 euros per year, according to the company. Tesla emphasizes that wages have been raised annually since production began in March 2022 and are higher than the collective bargaining wage rate.

Tesla maintains its position against adopting a collective bargaining agreement. In contrast, IG Metall calls for its implementation. Relations between the company and the union are tense following legal disputes at the beginning of the year related to board elections. According to IG Metall, employees without a collective bargaining agreement negotiate their working conditions individually with the employer.
