Tesla Model Y Long Range is available for sale in the United States. Also in the Middle East. In Europe, soon or not at all?

The Tesla Model YYY, also known as the Tesla Model Y L — an extended version of the Model Y — is now available for purchase in the United States and the Middle East. It costs 6.9 percent more there than the Tesla Model Y Performance. If similar price ratios applied in Poland, the prices of Tesla Model Y L vehicles would start at 294,990 zlotys. Many indications suggest this vehicle might make its way to Europe, though it is unlikely to become a hit there — those looking for a family electric car can get a better vehicle for less money.

Tesla Model Y L: Prices and Competition

We have written extensively about this car when it was introduced in China. The vehicle will have European homologation starting from December 2025, which confirms it uses a battery with a capacity of 88.2 (~84) kWh and promises up to 681 WLTP miles of range. The biggest advantage of the Model Y L is its greater length (4.976 meters with a wheelbase of 3.04 meters as an E-SUV), allowing for a third row of seats. Since fake data spread widely online via various AI tools, let us add that other key dimensions of the Tesla Model Y L are (source):

2.129 meters in width (including mirrors),

1.668 meters in height,

16.9 centimeters of clearance (empty),

12.2 centimeters of clearance (loaded to the allowed gross weight),

116 liters of trunk space in the front [these measurements may not follow VDA standards, meaning using bricks against the seatbacks or windows – editor’s note].

420 liters of trunk space in the back with the third row of seats folded down,

1,076 liters of trunk space in the back with the third row of seats folded up.

Tesla Model Y L

The prices of the Tesla Model Y L start at $61,990 in the United States, 6.9 percent higher than the Tesla Model Y Performance and 39.3 percent higher than the cheapest Tesla Model Y Premium. This is the Launch edition, featuring distinctive markings on the body, floor mats, and a dashboard covered in velour. The car comes equipped with Premium features, all-wheel drive, and promises an EPA range of 325 miles, or 523 kilometers.

Purchasers receive 12 months of free FSD (Supervised) as part of the package, along with an 18-speaker audio system featuring a subwoofer, a panoramic glass roof, heated and ventilated seats in the front and second row, a heated steering wheel, matrix adaptive headlights, and variable damping shock absorbers. They can choose from six paint colors and either a black or light gray interior:

In the American market, the main competitors for the Model Y L will be the Kia EV9 (longer, more rear space, inferior software) and a host of gasoline-powered models. In Europe, it will face competition from the EV9, Hyundai Ioniq 9, possibly the Xpeng X9 (van version, longer, more spacious, more expensive, faster charging, shorter range), and next year also from the BMW iX5 if the manufacturer adds a third row of seats to its electric X5. However, weak sales of the EV9 and poor performance of the Ioniq 9 suggest that the larger Tesla Model Y isn’t necessarily doomed to fail in the Old Continent, let alone achieve success there.
