Tesla reports record demand for FSD. Over 75% of new vehicles in North America come equipped with it.

Tesla reports a record 1.74 million active paid FSD subscriptions. Interest is growing rapidly, and the software helps the company sell its vehicles.
FSD Attracts More and More Customers
FSD is becoming an increasingly important part of Tesla’s offerings. In the third quarter of 2026, customers purchased it for over 75% of newly delivered vehicles in North America, according to the company. Purchases of the package as well as subscriptions are counted.
In the second quarter, this figure was around 55%. It has risen significantly in just three months. The number refers to new North American deliveries, while the overall statistic for active FSD customers covers a broader range.
Elon Musk responded to these results on X in his own way. He said people buy FSD along with the car. Tesla also claims that the system boosts demand in markets where it is available and is working to get approval for it in other countries.
Record 1.74 Million Paid Subscriptions
The total number of active paid FSD subscriptions reached 1.74 million. A year earlier, Tesla reported 1.04 million subscriptions, indicating an annual growth of approximately 67%. This marks another record for the automaker in expanding this service.
Compared to the second quarter, there was an increase of 260,000 active subscriptions, or about 17.6%. Tesla states this is its highest quarterly net increase to date. The previous period ended at 1.48 million subscriptions.
The methodology is important: the figure includes monthly subscriptions as well as previous one-time purchases of FSD. It does not represent 1.74 million customers paying monthly. Tesla also does not include free trial periods in these statistics.
Additional Features and Expansion in Europe
Upcoming features are expected to further boost interest. Tesla is working on improving navigation and pothole detection. Route planning is also set to better adapt to the paths the driver prefers. The availability date may vary by market.
In Europe, the system is known as Tesla Assisted Driving, or TAD for short. It is available to Czech drivers as well and has recently received approval in Slovakia. Further expansion will depend on regulatory approvals and the rollout of the service.
Despite its growing popularity, FSD remains a supervised driving assistance system. The driver must monitor traffic and be ready to take control. The “Supervised” label is therefore crucial: purchasing the package does not turn the car into an autonomous vehicle.
