Tesla added 3D maps of Supercharger stations to the app. The car still has better ones.

Tesla provides version 4.61.0 of the 3D Supercharger map in its mobile app. This feature shows the layout of stations, real-time occupancy, and obstacles in the parking lot even before entering the station. It may seem like a small detail to drivers, but it’s practical, especially at larger hubs and in crowded parking lots.

Until now, such maps primarily functioned on the car’s screen. Now they are also available on phones, though in a simplified form. The app displays the station from above, allowing users to zoom in and out, but it doesn’t allow rotating the perspective or viewing the surroundings from different angles like on Tesla’s main screen.

Tesla also appears to use a separate map layer here. When zooming in on a supported station, there is a brief lag, after which the standard Apple Maps view disappears and is replaced by Tesla’s own map showing chargers, parking spots, lanes, and cars. It functions more like a overlay for Superchargers rather than a full map of the surroundings.

From 18 locations to almost the entire United States

Tesla first introduced 3D maps of its Superchargers in the Holiday Update 2025. Initially, they covered only 18 pilot locations in California and Texas.

The scale expanded rapidly afterward. The company previously stated that its engineering and mapping team at Giga New York adds over 300 stations to the system each week. This sounds exactly like invisible work that, without it, wouldn’t produce the results seen in the app.

In spring 2026, the feature was also introduced to Canada. Today it covers the vast majority of the U.S. market, with almost every American Supercharger location having its own map. With a network of over 80,000 stations worldwide, this is impressive, even though global coverage isn’t yet complete.

The app got Cybercab sooner than the car

There’s also an interesting detail. Tesla has already added a separate 3D model for Cybercab, the driverless autonomous taxi, in its app. On the car’s screen, even after the Summer Update 2026.26, an occupied Cybercab station can still be displayed as a regular car.

On the phone, this feature already works. If someone wants to spot such a vehicle, they have the best chance in Austin for now, as it’s the only city where Cybercabs operate commercially within the Robotaxi network.

For Polish Tesla users, this is more of a preview of what’s to come than a feature for tomorrow, as the text focuses primarily on implementation in the US and Canada. But the idea itself makes sense. Before arriving at a crowded charging station, you can see the layout of the spots and know whether you need to prepare for maneuvering.

Tesla is increasingly transferring the experience from the car’s screen to the phone. The question is, when will we see a similar level of detail elsewhere outside North America?
